

CHICAGO – Sophomore right side Evan Muys (Orland Park, Ill./Sandburg) set a new school record with 23 kills in a single match, but the No. 5 seeded Saint Xavier University men's volleyball team ended its season with a hard-fought loss to No. 4 seed Lourdes University (Ohio) in first round action of the 2012 Mid-America Men's Volleyball Intercollegiate Conference (MAMVIC) East Division Tournament Friday at the Shannon Center in Chicago. The Cougars fell in five sets by scores of 25-22, 26-28, 27-25, 19-25 and 12-15. The previous mark was 22 kills set last season on March 23, 2011, by junior Aaron Porter (Woodridge, Ill./Downers Grove South) against Robert Morris University (Ill.). Following Friday's tournament action, Porter was named to the 2012 MAMVIC East Division First Team, while Muys and sophomore outside hitter Justin Cousin (Oak Park, Ill./Oak Park-River Forest) were named honorable mention selections.

CHICAGO – Despite a match-best 17 kills by sophomore outside hitter Justin Cousin (Oak Park, Ill./Oak Park-River Forest), the Saint Xavier University men's volleyball team could not come up with the victory in its regular season finale Wednesday night falling to NCAA Division III Carthage College (Wis.) at the Shannon Center in Chicago. The Cougars (7-18 overall) dropped the match in three sets by scores of 15-25, 21-25 and 18-25. The Red Men were extremely efficient throughout the match with their offensive attacks totaling 43 kills to just 15 errors for an impressive attacking percentage of .337 on the night.

The tournament will take place on Friday, March 30, and Saturday, March 31, at the Shannon Center in Chicago. CHICAGO – Junior outside hitter Aaron Porter (Woodridge, Ill./Downers Grove South) finished with team-highs of 17 kills, nine digs and two service aces; but it was not enough to get the Saint Xavier University men's volleyball team a victory as the Cougars lost a hard-fought battle with Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) Wednesday night at the Shannon Center in Chicago. The Cougars (7-17 overall) fell in five sets by scores of 21-25, 25-18, 17-25, 25-23 and 13-15. SXU were solid offensively posting 58 kills to just 13 errors for a team attack percentage of .338 for the match.

CHICAGO – Junior outside hitter Aaron Porter (Woodridge, Ill./Downers Grove South) and sophomore outside hitter Justin Cousin (Oak Park, Ill./Oak Park-River Forest) combined for 28 kills, but the Saint Xavier University men's volleyball team fell to NCAA Division II Lindenwood University (Mo.) Friday night at the Shannon Center in Chicago. The Cougars (7-16 overall) got off to a good start winning the first set 25-23, but failed to sustain the momentum dropping the next three 22-25, 18-25 and 14-25. The Lions used a consistent offensive attack to earn the victory hitting .300 or better in every set and finishing with an attack percentage of .388 on the match.

CHICAGO – Sophomore outside hitter Justin Cousin (Oak Park, Ill./Oak Park-River Forest) posted a match-high 18 kills for the second straight match, but the Saint Xavier University men's volleyball team dropped a tough one to NCAA Division II Limestone College (S.C.) Thursday night at the Shannon Center in Chicago. The Cougars (7-15 overall) fell in four sets 27-25, 25-13, 23-25 and 25-11. The visiting Saints had too much offensive momentum racking up 53 kills and six service aces in the match. Limestone improves its overall record to 10-6 with Thursday's victory.
