

Kansas City, Mo. – Saint Xavier University sophomore guard Brad Karp (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso) earned second team recognition on the 2011-12 NAIA Division I Men's Basketball All-America Team when the NAIA national office released the honors Wednesday afternoon. Karp becomes the first SXU player to earn a second team spot on the NAIA's Division I Men's Basketball All-America Team since the 2005-06 season when former standout Jabari Saunders (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Township West) claimed it for the second straight year to cap his impressive career with the Cougars. The selections are made by the NAIA Men's Basketball Coaches' Association All-America Committee and comprises a First, Second, Third and Honorable Mention Team. There are 10 members on each of the first three All-America teams.

Joliet, Ill. - Saint Xavier University junior point guard Roosevelt Green (Markham, Ill./Tinley Park) and sophomore guard Brad Karp (Valparaiso, Ind./Valaparaiso) were the team's first-team representatives on the 2011-12 All-Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Division I Men's Basketball Team when the awards were announced late Saturday afternoon in conjunction with the 2012 CCAC Men's Basketball Tournament Championship. In addition, senior guard Ed Gilgenbach (Fond du Lac, Wis./Fond du Lac), junior point guard Anthony Grant (South Holland, Ill./Prairie State CC/Thornridge) and sophomore forward Mark Peters (Aurora, Ill./Marmion Academy) all earned sports on this season's All-CCAC Second Team.

Bourbonnais, Ill. – Sophomore guard Brad Karp (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso) led all scorers with 26 points, but the No. 3 seeded Saint Xavier University men's basketball team lost a heartbreaker to No. 2 seed Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.), 76-71, in the semifinals of the 2012 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Division I Men's Basketball Tournament Thursday evening at McHie Arena in Bourbonnais, Ill. The Cougars (23-9 overall/7-3 CCAC) had a chance to tie the game in the closing seconds, but missed a three-pointer with 13 seconds remaining and a lay-up with eight seconds left. The Tigers got the rebound and senior guard Antonio Marshall sank two free throws with two seconds remaining to seal the win. SXU will now have to wait for the final NAIA Top 25 ranking scheduled to be released on Monday, March 5, to see if the team has a chance at one of the at-large bids for the NAIA National Tournament.

CHICAGO –Juniors Dominique Harvey (Chicago, Ill./Homewood-Flossmoor) and Anthony Grant (South Holland, Ill./Prairie State CC/Thornridge) stole the show combining for 40 points to lead No. 3 seed Saint Xavier University to a 92-76 win over No. 6 seeded Roosevelt University (Ill.) in first round action of the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Division I Men's Basketball Tournament Tuesday night at the Shannon Center in Chicago. The Cougars (23-8 overall/7-3 CCAC) shot an impressive 61 percent (36-for-59) from the field in the game. Harvey went 11-for-13 from the field for a game-best 22 points to go along with seven rebounds, while Grant dropped 18 points on the Lakers on efficient 6-for-8 shooting.

Karp averaged 24.5 points and 8.5 rebounds over SXU's two games last week, which included a huge 99-91 win over No. 3 ranked Robert Morris University (Ill.) Saturday. It was the first time the Cougar men's basketball team has knocked off a NAIA top five ranked foe since defeating No. 3 Lindsey Wilson College (Ky.), 78-68, in the second round of the 2005 Buffalo Funds-NAIA Division I Men's Basketball National Championship on March 18, 2005, in Kansas City, Mo. He is the first basketball player in the history of the program to win two of the national weekly awards in the same month.
