

CHICAGO –Saint Xavier University head football coach Mike Feminis announced Thursday the signing of four more Chicago area preps, who will bring their talents on the gridiron to help the Cougars defend their national championship in 2012. The new recruits include: linebackers Dan Fitzgerald (St. Rita) and Mike Sheehy (Brother Rice) as well as wide receivers Dan Ladd (St. Rita) and Ryan Carroll (Marist). The announcement comes just a day after Feminis released the names of his initial five prep recruits on National College Football Signing Day.

CHICAGO – After winning the 2011 NAIA National Championship back on December 17, Saint Xavier University head football coach Mike Feminis has spent a majority of the past six weeks recruiting his next freshmen class of impressive student-athletes. That job got a bit easier this week with the recent signings of five talented preps in quarterback John Rhode (Montini Catholic), athlete Austin Feeney (Morris), offensive lineman Jake Jankowski (Joliet Catholic) and defensive linemen Nick Cemeno (Providence Catholic) and Alex Hamilton (Minooka).

CHICAGO – Displaying an obvious sign of respect from one successful sports team to another, the Chicago Blackhawks welcomed the Saint Xavier University football team and its 2011 NAIA National Championship trophy to the United Center for Sunday night's game against the San Jose Sharks. The Blackhawks set up a table in the concourse to display the national championship trophy and other promotional items, including 2011 SXU Football media guides and specially designed posters celebrating the national championship victory. During the second intermission, SXU head coach Mike Feminis was invited to "Shoot the Puck" and then public address announcer Gene Honda read off a congratulatory message to the team while highlights from the national championship game were shown on the Jumbotron. Following the tribute, the Cougars had their seating section displayed on the Jumbotron, which drew a special applause from the announced crowd of 21,645.

SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS — The American Football Coaches Association capped its 2012 convention by presenting its top coaching award — AFCA Coach of the Year — to five outstanding coaches today. LSU's Les Miles, Sam Houston State's Willie Fritz, Wayne State's Paul Winters, Wisconsin-Whitewater's Lance Leipold and Saint Xavier's Mike Feminis are the 2011 AFCA National Coach of the Year winners. Miles in FBS, Fritz in FCS, Winters in Division II, Leipold in Division III and Feminis in NAIA. The winners are selected by a vote of the Active AFCA members (coaches at four-year schools) in the Association's five divisions. The AFCA has named a Coach of the Year since 1935. The AFCA Coach of the Year award is the oldest and most prestigious of all the Coach of the Year awards and is the only one chosen exclusively by the coaches themselves.

CHICAGO – The Saint Xavier University Athletics Department will hold a special assembly to honor its football team on winning the 2011 NAIA National Championship last month with its 24-20 victory over six-time national champion Carroll College (Mont.). The assembly will take place at the Shannon Center on Tuesday, January 17, starting at 3:30 p.m. The event is free and will be open to the general public. The national championship is the first in the 41-year history of Saint Xavier University Athletics and the first college football national title for the city of Chicago since 1913. The Cougars are also the first college football team in the state of Illinois to win a national championship since NCAA Division III Augustana College won it all in 1986.
