Senior Matt Rychel wrapped up his impressive college career with a 143rd place finish at Nationals

Vancouver, Wash. - The Saint Xavier University men's cross country team completed its 2011 season at the NAIA National Cross Country Championships in Vancouver, Wash., on Saturday, November 19, with two individual qualifiers, senior Matt Rychel (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew) and sophomore Brian Corcoran (Chicago, Ill./Brother Rice) participating.  Due to injuries sustained earlier in the season, only Rychel went to the starting line and had a nice finish at No. 143 overall in the field of 390 runners with a time of 26:06 for the 8000-meter (8K) course.

Bourbonnais, Ill. - The Saint Xavier University men's cross country team completed its  2011 regular season schedule at the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Cross Country Championships hosted by Olivet Nazarene University Saturday in Bourbonnais, Ill.  The Cougars finished fourth overall among the 12 teams competing at the conference meet.  Sophomore Brian Corcoran (Chicago, Ill./Brother Rice) and senior Matt Rychel (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew) finished among the leaders and will both have the opportunity to represent SXU as individuals at the NAIA Cross Country National Championships in Vancouver, Wash., on Saturday, November 19.

Grand Rapids, Mich. - The Saint Xavier University men's cross country team finished ninth overall out of 30 teams at the all-important NAIA Great Lakes Challenge Cross Country Invitational hosted by Aquinas College (Mich.) this past Saturday in Grand Rapids, Mich.  Once again, sophomore Brian Corcoran (Chicago, Ill./Brother Rice) led the Cougars with an eighth-place finish in the 327-runner field with an outstanding time of 25:17 over the 8K (8,000-meters) course.  Next across the finish line for SXU was senior Matt Rychel (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew), who finished in 46thplace in the time of 26:09.

South Bend, Ind. - The Saint Xavier University men's cross country team took part in the Bethel College Invitational in South Bend, Ind., last Friday and finished third place among the 11 teams competing.  Aquinas College (Mich.) won the overall team title with just 21 points.  The Cougars were led by sophomore Brian Corcoran (Chicago, Ill./Brother Rice), who finished in fifth place overall among the 139 runners with a time of 26:08 for the 8,000-meter (8K) course.  Corcoran was followed by senior Matt Rychel (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew) in 15thplace at 26:42.

Louisville, Ky. – Competing in the Blue Division, the Saint Xavier University men's cross country team took part at the Greater Louisville Classic on Saturday, October 1, in Louisville, Ky.  The Classic hosted over 100 teams in three divisions and is the site of one of the most challenging and competitive meets in the nation.  The Blue division is the middle category and included teams from all three NCAA Divisions as well as top NAIA teams.  The Cougars, who received votes in the latest NAIA Top 25 Poll released late last week, finished 16thin the 32-team division, which was won by Lipscomb University (Tenn.).

Normal, Ill. – Finishing 12thoverall in a 32-team field, the Saint Xavier University men's cross country team ran well at the prestigious Illinois Intercollegiate Cross Country Championships Friday hosted by Illinois State University in Normal, Ill.  The meet featured the best collegiate runners and teams within the state of Illinois and was won by North Central College.  Once again, the Cougars were led by sophomore Brian Corcoran (Chicago, Ill./Brother Rice), who finished 17thoverall among 332 runners in a time of 25:00 for the 8K (8,000 meter) course.
