

CHICAGO – Despite career-bests of 39 points and 20 rebounds by sophomore guard Brad Karp (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso), the Saint Xavier University men's basketball team dropped a heartbreaker to No. 2 ranked Robert Morris University, 99-96, in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) action Saturday afternoon at the Shannon Center in Chicago. The game was back-and-forth throughout with 20 lead changes and the score knotted up 10 different times. SXU led 41-40 at the half, but the two teams combined for 114 points after the break to help create a wild second half. The Cougars were impressive in the paint scoring 46 of their 96 points in the lane.

CHICAGO – Behind 53 first-half points, the Saint Xavier University men's basketball team pulled away early for a 90-64 victory over Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) rival University of St. Francis (Ill.) Wednesday night at the Shannon Center in Chicago. Sophomore guard Brad Karp (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso) had another sensational outing for the Cougars finishing with 23 points and six rebounds. With the win, SXU improves to 17-6 overall and 3-1 in the conference standings. The outcome was never in doubt as Saint Xavier was dominate from the onset jumping out to a 10-0 lead in the first three minutes and never trailing en route to the 26-point victory.

Joliet, Ill. - Saint Xavier University sophomore guard Brad Karp (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso) was named the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Men's Basketball Player of the Week Monday evening for the third time this season. Karp averaged 27.5 points and 10.0 rebounds over SXU's two games last week, a thrilling 90-87 overtime win over Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.) and a tough 70-62 road loss to Indiana University-South Bend (IUSB). It is also the second time this month he has achieved the honor after earning it back on January 17.

South Bend, Ind. - Sophomore guard Brad Karp (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso) led Saint Xavier University with 20 points and nine rebounds, but it was not enough to offset a rough first half for the visitors in a 70-62 road loss to Indiana University-South Bend (IUSB) in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) men's basketball action Saturday afternoon in South Bend, Ind. The Cougars (16-6 overall/2-1 CCAC) shot just 39 percent from the field (9-for-23) and racked up 10 turnovers in the opening frame allowing the Titans to build a 29-22 halftime advantage. The seven-point lead proved to be all IUSB needed for momentum as the hosts quickly established a double-digit lead after the break and never trailed in second-half action.

CHICAGO – Behind game-highs of 35 points and 11 rebounds by sophomore guard Brad Karp (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso), the Saint Xavier University men's basketball team won an overtime thriller with Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) rival Olivet Nazarene University, 90-87, Tuesday night at the Shannon Center in Chicago. Karp shot an amazing 13-for-18 (72 percent) from the field, including a 5-for-6 clip from beyond the three-point arc. Junior point guard Roosevelt Green (Markham, Ill./Tinley Park) also played well for SXU finishing with 18 points and eight assists. With the victory, the Cougars improve to 16-5 overall and 2-0 in the CCAC, while the Tigers fall to 11-9 this season and 1-1 in the conference standings.

CHICAGO – Joshua D. Mawhorr, a 6-7 senior forward/center at Muncie Central High School in Muncie, Ind., recently signed a letter of intent to continue both his athletic and academic career at Saint Xavier University as a member of the Cougar men's basketball program. The Muncie native was a recipient of the SXU Presidential Scholarship in addition to his basketball scholarship. Under the direction of Matt Fine, Mawhorr averaged 9.0 points, 8.0 rebounds and 2.1 blocks per game during his junior season with the Bearcats.
