[Men's Cross Country] Corcoran, Hancock Finish Up SXU Cross Country Season at Nationals

Vancouver, Wash. - Junior Brian Corcoran (Chicago, Ill./Brother Rice) and freshman Eric Hancock (Mishawaka, Ind./Mishawaka) officially wrapped up the 2012 Saint Xavier University men's cross country season with solid performances at Saturday's NAIA National Cross Country Championships at the Fort Vancouver National Historic site in Vancouver, Wash. Corcoran finished in 82^nd place overall out of 309 of the NAIA's top runners in the 8K (8,000 meters) race with a time of 25:58. Hancock took 135^th place clocking in at 26:30 at the meet.

Channahon, Ill. - The Saint Xavier University men's cross country team placed third out of the 12 teams competing in the 2012 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Championships on Saturday, November 3, at Channahon Community Park in Channahon, Ill. SXU was led by junior Brian Corcoran (Chicago, Ill./Brother Rice), who finished in ninth place overall in the 8,000 meter (8K) race with a time of 25:06.94. Freshman Eric Hancock (Mishawaka, Ind./Mishawaka) finished in 18th overall with a time of 25:40.40. Both Corcoran and Hancock qualified for the NAIA National Cross Country Championships based on their finishes in Saturday's race, while Corcoran was also named to the all-conference team for his ninth-place finish.

Grand Rapids, Mich. – The Saint Xavier University men's cross country team placed sixth out of 34 teams competing at the NAIA Great Lakes Invitational in Grand Rapids, Mich., on Saturday, October 20. Junior Brian Corcoran (Chicago, Ill./Brother Rice) led the way for SXU finishing in 19^th place overall with a time of 25:48.18 over the 8K race (8,000 meters). Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) rival St. Francis (Ill.) won the race with Shawnee State (Ohio), Aquinas (Mich.), Cornerstone (Mich.) and Indiana Wesleyan (Ind.) coming in second, third, fourth and fifth place respectively.

CHICAGO - Saint Xavier University junior Brian Corcoran (Chicago, Ill./Brother Rice) has been named the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Male Cross Country Runner of the Week when the league office announced the honor on Tuesday. Corcoran garnered the recognition for the second time this season after placing second overall in a competitive field at the Bethel College (Ind.) Cross Country Invitational on Friday. He finished just three seconds behind frontrunner Grant Gunneson of Aquinas College (Mich.), who registered a time of 25:23. Corcoran posted a time of 25:26 over the 8K (8,000 meters) course.

South Bend, Ind. – With junior Brian Corcoran (Chicago, Ill./Brother Rice) finishing in second place overall out of 118 runners with a time of 25:26.2, the Saint Xavier University men's cross country team traveled to South Bend, Ind., this past Friday to race in the Bethel College Cross Country Invitational 8K (8,000 meters) race at St. Patrick's County Park. The Cougars finished third out of the nine teams competing at the meet. SXU trailed only No. 11 Aquinas College and Indiana Institute of Technology in the final team standings. Indiana Tech is receiving votes in the latest NAIA Men's Cross Country Top 25 Poll.

CHICAGO – Led by a strong performance from junior runner Brian Corcoran (Chicago, Ill./Brother Rice), the Saint Xavier University men's cross country team finished in 22^nd place out of 47 teams participating in the 40^th Annual Sean Earl Loyola Lakefront Invitational on Saturday, September 29, at Montrose Harbor in Chicago. The winner of the race was the University of Wisconsin with Southern Illinois University, Purdue University, host Loyola University and the University of Chicago finishing out the top five. Corcoran placed 45^th out of the 456 runners competing with a time of 26:02.

Normal, Ill. – The Saint Xavier University men's cross country team traveled to Normal, Ill., this past Friday to race in the Illinois Intercollegiate Championships hosted by Illinois State University. The Cougars finished seventh out of 29 teams competing in the meet. Leading SXU was junior Brian Corcoran (Chicago, Ill./Brother Rice). Corcoran finished in 28^th place out of 270 runners in the 8K race (8,000 meters) with a time of 25:25.

Bourbonnais, Ill. – The Saint Xavier University men's cross country team headed to Bourbonnais, Ill., this past Friday to run in the Midwest Classic hosted by Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.). Overall, the Cougars finished third among the 11 teams competing only trailing host Olivet Nazarene and Saint Ambrose University (Iowa). Leading SXU again was junior Brian Corcoran (Chicago, Ill./Brother Rice). Corcoran finished seventh overall among the 112 runners in the 8K race (8,000 meters) in a time of 26:55. Next for the Cougars was freshman Eric Hancock (Mishawaka, Ind./Mishawaka) in 11^th place at 26:59. Junior Shane Kenney (Porter, Ind./Chesterton) took the next spot for the Cougars in 18^th place with a time of 27:28, followed by junior Chris Sarna (Palos Hills, Ill./Stagg) in 24^th at 27:42 and then senior Ricky Olmedo (Blue Island, Ill./Calumet College/Eisenhower) in 30^th place with a time of 27:52.

Joliet, Ill. – Besting a field that featured runners from the top collegiate level at the University of Illinois-Chicago (UIC) Opener, Saint Xavier University junior Brian Corcoran (Chicago, Ill./Brother Rice) claimed the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Male Runner of the Week honor for his performance over the weekend. Corcoran outdueled runners from NCAA Division I UIC and University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee among others schools to win the 4.1-mile event. Corcoran posted a time of 20:58 to pace the field Saturday at the Horsetail Slough Course in Palos Heights, Ill.

Palos Heights, Ill. – Behind a first-place finish by junior Brian Corcoran (Chicago, Ill./Brother Rice), the Saint Xavier University men's cross country team opened its season in fine fashion at the University of Illinois-Chicago (UIC) Opener this past Saturday at Horsetail Slough Course in Palos Heights, Ill. The Cougars wrapped up the meet with an impressive second-place team finish among the five teams participating. SXU was the only non-NCAA Division I squad in attendance. The Cougars finished with 57 points behind only host Illinois-Chicago with 20. Following Saint Xavier were University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee with 66, University of Wisconsin-Green Bay with 123 and Chicago State University (Ill.) with 154 points.

CHICAGO – Saint Xavier University men's cross country and track coach Ed McAllister is excited about the decision of freshman Eric Hancock to continue his academic and athletic career at SXU for the upcoming 2012-13 year. Hancock hails from Mishawaka, Ind., where he was a standout cross country and track runner for the Cavemen of Mishawaka High School. Hancock was a two-year state finalist at Mishawaka in both sports as well. He is the son of Fred and Angie Hancock of Mishawaka and plans to study biology starting this year at Saint Xavier University.

Vancouver, Wash. - The Saint Xavier University men's cross country team completed its 2011 season at the NAIA National Cross Country Championships in Vancouver, Wash., on Saturday, November 19, with two individual qualifiers, senior Matt Rychel (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew) and sophomore Brian Corcoran (Chicago, Ill./Brother Rice) participating. Due to injuries sustained earlier in the season, only Rychel went to the starting line and had a nice finish at No. 143 overall in the field of 390 runners with a time of 26:06 for the 8000-meter (8K) course.

The Cougars finished fourth overall among the 12 teams competing at the conference meet. Sophomore Brian Corcoran (Chicago, Ill./Brother Rice) and senior Matt Rychel (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew) finished among the leaders and will both have the opportunity to represent SXU as individuals at the NAIA Cross Country National Championships in Vancouver, Wash., on Saturday, November 19.

Grand Rapids, Mich. - The Saint Xavier University men's cross country team finished ninth overall out of 30 teams at the all-important NAIA Great Lakes Challenge Cross Country Invitational hosted by Aquinas College (Mich.) this past Saturday in Grand Rapids, Mich. Once again, sophomore Brian Corcoran (Chicago, Ill./Brother Rice) led the Cougars with an eighth-place finish in the 327-runner field with an outstanding time of 25:17 over the 8K (8,000-meters) course. Next across the finish line for SXU was senior Matt Rychel (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew), who finished in 46^thplace in the time of 26:09.

South Bend, Ind. - The Saint Xavier University men's cross country team took part in the Bethel College Invitational in South Bend, Ind., last Friday and finished third place among the 11 teams competing. Aquinas College (Mich.) won the overall team title with just 21 points. The Cougars were led by sophomore Brian Corcoran (Chicago, Ill./Brother Rice), who finished in fifth place overall among the 139 runners with a time of 26:08 for the 8,000-meter (8K) course. Corcoran was followed by senior Matt Rychel (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew) in 15^thplace at 26:42.
