[Men's Basketball] Saint Xavier�s O�Malley to Host June Boy�s Basketball Camps

CHICAGO - Saint Xavier University men's basketball coach Tom O'Malley will host his annual boy's basketball camp, which runs over two sessions with the first taking place from June 10-13, 2013, and the second held from June 17-20, 2013. The camp is open to all boys between the ages of 9 and 15. Each session will run from 9:30 a.m. until noon daily. The camp will be held in the Shannon Center on the Chicago campus of Saint Xavier University.

Point Lookout, Mo. - Saint Xavier University junior guard Brad Karp (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso) and senior point guard Roosevelt Green (Markham, Ill./Tinley Park) were both recognized on the 2012-13 NAIA Division II Men's Basketball All-America teams when the national office released the honors Wednesday. Karp was one of just 10 players nationally to earn second team honors, while Green claimed a spot on the honorable mention squad. The All-America Teams are selected by the NAIA All-America committee. In addition, Karp and senior guard Shane Zackery (Rockford, Ill./Boylan Catholic) were both honored as Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes this week. To be named a Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete, a player must have reached at least junior academic status and have a minimum cumulative grade-point average (GPA) of 3.50 on a 4.00 scale.

Point Lookout, Mo. – Despite 19 points from sophomore guard Jack Krieger (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield North), the No. 6 seeded Saint Xavier University men's basketball team ended its season Friday night with an 83-73 loss to No. 10 seeded Indiana University-Southeast in the second round of the 22^nd Annual NAIA Division II Men's Basketball National Championship at Keeter Gymnasium on the campus of College of the Ozarks in Point Lookout, Mo. The Cougars had difficulty cooling off the Grenadiers' hot start, which resulted in an early 12-2 lead and 55 percent shooting from the field in the first half (17-for-31). SXU fell behind by as many as 21 points in the second half, but used a fierce 19-5 scoring run to cut the deficit to six points, 73-67, with 3:17 to play. Unfortunately for Saint Xavier, IUSE made enough baskets and free throws to stifle the rally attempt in the final three minutes.

Point Lookout, Mo. – With the first basket of the game in Saint Xavier's 82-60 victory over Saint Mary (Kan.) late last night in the first round of the NAIA Division II Men's Basketball National Championships in Point Lookout, Mo., junior guard Brad Karp (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso) joined an exclusive group. Scoring his 2,000^th career point with that bucket, Karp became only the fifth player in Illinois college basketball history to reach the milestone in three or less seasons. He also becomes just the fourth player in SXU men's basketball history (dating back to 1970) to reach the 2,000 career points mark joining Hall of Famers Mike Walaszek (2,517 points, 1978), Mark Telander (2,281 points, 2004) and Gary Hickerson (2,245 points, 1975).

Point Lookout, Mo. – Hitting 58 percent (19-for-33) of its second-half shots and scoring 46 points after the halftime break, the No. 6 seeded Saint Xavier University men's basketball team pulled away for an 82-60 win over unseeded University of Saint Mary (Kan.) in the first round of the 22^nd Annual NAIA Division II Men's Basketball National Championship to wrap up the first day of action at the Keeter Gymnasium on the campus of College of the Ozarks in Point Lookout, Mo. Playing in its first NAIA Division II National Championship after moving down from NAIA Division I this season, SXU wasted little time after jumping out to a 16-5 lead on a run capped by a basket by junior guard Brad Karp (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso). Senior point guard Roosevelt Green (Markham, Ill./Tinley Park) led five Cougars in double figures with 18 points, while dishing out a game-high six assists.

Branson, Mo. - The Saint Xavier University men's basketball team participated in the 2013 NAIA Parade of Champions prior to the College of the Ozarks (Mo.) vs. Northwood University (Fla.) game in which all 32 teams that are participating in the 2013 NAIA Division II Men's Basketball National Championship come onto the court and spell out NAIA. SXU takes on Saint Mary University (Kan.) in the nightcap game at 9:45 p.m., this evening (March 6). The winner of the Cougars and Spires game will take on Indiana University Southeast on Friday, March 8. That game is set to tip-off at 4 p.m.

Branson, Mo. - Two days into the Saint Xavier University men's basketball team's trip to the 2013 NAIA Division II National Championships in Branson, Mo. and there have been plenty of photo opportunities. The team has already held two practice sessions at a Branson Junior High School and attended the annual pre-tournament banquet and dinner at the Dolly Parton Dixie Stampede. The team is having a great time thus far, but looking forward to its first round match-up with University of Saint Mary (Kan.) at 9:45 p.m. on Wednesday, March 6, at the Keeter Gymnasium in Point Lookout, Mo.

CHICAGO - It was only apropos that Saint Xavier University junior guard Brad Karp (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso) capture the final Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Men's Basketball Player of the Week award for the 2012-13 season, when it was announced earlier this week. Karp, the 2012-13 CCAC Player of the Year, gained the honor for the eighth time in the 17 weeks in which it was presented after averaging 16.3 points and 8.7 rebounds over three games in leading the Cougars to a runner-up finish in the 2013 CCAC Tournament during the seven-day period ending February 24.

Kansas City, Mo. - Head coach Tom O'Malley and the No. 7 nationally ranked Saint Xavier University men's basketball team received word that they will take on University of St. Mary (Kan.) in the first round of the 2013 NAIA Division II Men's Basketball National Championship in Point Lookout, Mo., when the seeds and pairings for the event were officially released by the NAIA national office Wednesday evening. The 32-team, single-elimination tournament is divided into four, eight-team brackets with the top 16 teams seeded. The Cougars will match up against the Spires in first-round action on Wednesday, March 6, with a scheduled 9: 45 p.m. (central) tip-off at the Keeter Gymnasium on the campus of the College of the Ozarks in Point Lookout, Mo.

Milwaukee, Wis. – Following the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Tournament championship Saturday afternoon in Milwaukee, Saint Xavier University junior guard Brad Karp (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso) was named the 2012-13 CCAC Men's Basketball Player of the Year and joined three of his teammates on the 2012-13 All-CCAC Men's Basketball Team when the honors were announced by the conference commissioner. Senior point guard Roosevelt Green (Markham, Ill./Tinley Park) also earned first team honors along with Karp, while senior point guard Anthony Grant (Calumet City, Ill./Prairie State CC/Thornridge) and sophomore guard Jack Krieger (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield North) earned honorable mention recognition.

Milwaukee, Wis. – Despite game-bests of 23 points, 10 rebounds and three steals by junior guard Brad Karp (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso), the No. 7 ranked and No. 2 seeded Saint Xavier University men's basketball team had its 17-game win streak come to an end Saturday afternoon with a tough 84-75 loss to No. 2 ranked and No. 1 seeded Cardinal Stritch University (Wis.) in the championship game of the 2013 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Tournament at Panella Court in Milwaukee, Wis. The Wolves got hot offensively when it counted the most shooting 57 percent (16-for-28) in the second half, including a 46-percent clip (5-for-11) from beyond the arc, to pull away late in the game. SXU trailed 39-37 at halftime after leading for most of the opening frame, but CSU never trailed in the second half and used a 14-5 run late in the frame to build a 74-62 lead with 2:09 to play.

Milwaukee, Wis. - Sophomore guard Jack Krieger (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield North) had the hot hand sinking three three-pointers en route to a game-best 15 points in leading the No. 7 ranked and No. 2 seeded Saint Xavier University men's basketball team to a convincing 64-46 victory over No. 3 seed Indiana University-South Bend (IUSB) in the semifinals of the 2013 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Men's Basketball Tournament at Cardinal Stritch University (Wis.) Friday night in Milwaukee, Wis. The Cougars (28-4 overall) have won 17 straight games, the longest win streak for the program since the team started the 1988-89 season with a 17-0 record. SXU advances to Saturday's CCAC Tournament Championship and faces No. 2 ranked and No. 1 seed Cardinal Stritch University (Wis.) at 3 p.m. in Milwaukee.

CHICAGO - Saint Xavier University junior guard Brad Karp (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso) continued his amazing run through the 2013-14 season earning his seventh Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Men's Basketball Player of the Week award after shooting 63 percent from the field during the week ending Feb. 17, it was announced by the league office late Thursday. Karp hit the 30-point mark for the third time this season in a 110-75 victory over Holy Cross College (Ind.) last Saturday and finished the week averaging 25.0 points, 6.5 rebounds and 3.0 steals per game.

CHICAGO – Senior point guards Anthony Grant (Calumet City, Ill./Prairie State CC/Thornridge) and Roosevelt Green (Markham, Ill./Tinley Park) combined to score 44 points as the No. 7 ranked and No. 2 seeded Saint Xavier University men's basketball team knocked off No. 10 seed Holy Cross College (Ind.), 95-84, in the quarterfinals of the 2013 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Tournament Wednesday night at the Shannon Center in Chicago. It was the 16^th straight victory for the Cougars, its longest win streak in the last decade. Grant led SXU with 23 points hitting nine of his 14 shots from the field, while Green was right behind with 21 points to go along with his game-best eight assists. Saint Xavier got off to a hot start Wednesday hitting 57 percent (21-for-37) of its shots in the first half.

Towson, Md. – Saint Xavier University junior guard Brad Karp (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso) headlined the 2013 Capital One Academic All-America® College Division Men's Basketball Team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) when the teams were released Monday afternoon. The Capital One College Division Academic All-America® basketball teams are comprised of student-athletes from both divisions of the NAIA as well as Canadian and two-year institutions. Karp was chosen as the winner of the Capital One Academic All-America® Team Member of the Year award for the men's basketball team out of the other 14 players who earned a spot on either the first, second or third teams (five players selected for each team). Last year, Karp earned a spot on the 2012 Capital One Academic All-America® College Division Second Team as a sophomore.
