[Men's Soccer] Saint Xavier University Men's Soccer Adds Judickas

CHICAGO – Dale Judickas, a junior transfer from South Suburban Community College in South Holland, Ill., recently signed a letter of intent to continue both his athletic and academic career at Saint Xavier University as a member of the Cougar men's soccer program. The Hickory Hills, Ill., native played two seasons for head coach Jose Gonzalez with the Bulldogs. Judickas, a defender and midfielder, played prep soccer at nearby Stagg High School in Palos Hills under head coach Mike Kealy.

[Baseball] Five Saint Xavier Baseball Players Earn All-CCAC Recognition

Joliet, Ill. – Led by three first-team selections, the Saint Xavier University baseball team have five of its players named to the 2012 All-Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Baseball Team when the awards were announced by the conference office Monday. Senior shortstop Adam Koglin (Henderson, Nev./UNLV/Silverado), junior catcher Tony O'Shea (Valparaiso, Ind./Mount Carmel) and sophomore outfielder Chris Klein (Huntley, Ill./Huntley) were all named first-team selections, while senior second baseman Tom Simek (New Lenox, Ill./St. Laurence) and junior third baseman Mike Pokers earned second-team recognition. In addition, Koglin and Simek both claimed spots on the nine-man 2012 CCAC Gold Glove Team for their defensive credentials.

Whiting, Ind. - A two-RBI double to left-centerfield by sophomore first baseman Cheryl Sendzik in the top of the sixth proved to be the game-winning hit as No. 1 seed and No. 10 ranked Olivet Nazarene University won the 2012 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Softball Tournament with a 2-1 victory over No. 2 seeded and No. 24 ranked Saint Xavier University Saturday afternoon at the Whiting Sports Complex in Whiting, Ind. The win for ONU dampened an impressive complete game pitching performance by SXU senior right-hander Amie Brown (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Catholic), who went seven innings and allowed seven hits, two runs (both earned) and a walk with five strikeouts. The Tigers earn the automatic bid to 2012 NAIA Softball Championships, which begin on Thursday, May 17, in Gulf Shores, Ala. SXU ends its season with a record of 37-16 overall.

Whiting, Ind. – Freshman second baseman Megan James (Oak Forest, Ill./Marist) finished with four hits on the day as the No. 2 seeded Saint Xavier University softball team split its two Friday games of the 2012 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Softball Tournament at the Whiting Sports Complex in Whiting, Ind. The Cougars dropped the first game to No. 1 seed and No. 10 ranked Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.), 5-2, and then defeated No. 5 seed University of St. Francis (Ill.), 6-2, Friday night to advance to Saturday's championship game. SXU faces ONU at noon Saturday for the tournament title, but needs to win twice to claim the crown since Olivet Nazarene has yet to lose in the double-elimination tourney.

Whiting, Ind. – A RBI single by freshman catcher Cameron Balough with one out in the bottom of the 11th inning gave No. 1 seed and No. 17 ranked Judson University (Ill.) a thrilling 11-10 win over No. 4 seed Saint Xavier University on the fourth day of action at the 2012 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Baseball Tournament Friday afternoon at Oil City Stadium in Whiting, Ind. The loss ends SXU's season with a record of 35-23 overall. The game was resumed at 3:15 p.m. Friday after being postponed in the bottom of the 11th inning late Thursday evening due to passing thunderstorms. The conclusion only lasted a few minutes as JU put a pair of runners at first and second base after back-to-back hit batters and Balough came through with the game-winning RBI hit in the next at-bat.

Whiting, Ind. – A sacrifice fly to centerfield by freshman designated hitter Sarah Saunders (Burbank, Ill./Reavis) with one out in the bottom of the eighth gave the No. 2 seeded and No. 24 ranked Saint Xavier University softball team a thrilling 2-1 victory over No. 3 seed Robert Morris University (Ill.) in second round action of the 2012 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Softball Tournament Thursday afternoon at the Whiting Sports Complex in Whiting, Ind. Sophomore right-hander Megan Nonnemacher (Bloomington, Ill./Normal Community) notched the win (18-7) for the Cougars going all eight innings and allowing just five hits, one run (earned) and no walks with five strikeouts. Following the game, six SXU players were named to the 2012 All-CCAC Softball Team with Nonnemacher highlighting the group by earning co-CCAC Pitcher of the Year recognition along with Olivet Nazarene senior Katie Hannigan.

Whiting, Ind. – Behind a big day at the plate by freshman designated hitter Andy Kovarik (Crystal Lake, Ill./Prairie Ridge), Saint Xavier University split its first two games of the 2012 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Baseball Tournament Wednesday and stayed alive in the double-elimination event held at Oil City Stadium in Whiting, Ind. The Cougars (35-22 overall) played Wednesday's opener against University of St. Francis (Ill.) at Richard R. Ferrell Memorial Field in Chicago due to Tuesday's wet weather and lost the game, 12-7. SXU bounced back in its second game Wednesday with a 7-4 victory over Purdue University-North Central (Ind.) in Whiting, Ind., to keep its tournament title hopes alive.

WHITING, Ind. --- The overnight rain in the Chicagoland area has created another scheduling change in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Baseball Tournament. The main change is that Saint Xavier University and University of St. Francis will play the game that was originally-scheduled at Whiting's Oil City Stadium at 12 p.m. on the campus of Saint Xavier University at 2 p.m. The loser of that contest will face Purdue University North Central tonight at 7 p.m. at Oil City Stadium in Whiting. The 3:30 p.m. contest between Olivet Nazarene University and Judson University will remain as scheduled and in Whiting, Ind.

CHICAGO – Luke Zeiler, a senior transfer from Nova Southeastern University (Fla.) in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., recently signed a letter of intent to continue both his athletic and academic career at Saint Xavier University as a member of the Cougar men's soccer program. The Homer Glen, Ill., native also played two seasons at Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) rival University of St. Francis (Ill.) during his freshman and sophomore years in 2009 and 2010. Zeiler, a center midfielder, played prep soccer at Lockport Township High School in Lockport, Ill., and earned all-sectional and all-conference honors his senior season.

Bourbonnais, Ill. – Sophomore left fielder Brad Myjak (Tinley Park, Ill./Mount Carmel) posted three hits and two RBI on the day, but the Saint Xavier University baseball team could not secure a victory dropping a doubleheader to Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) rival Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.) Saturday afternoon at Watson Field in Bourbonnais, Ill. The Cougars (34-21 overall/20-10 CCAC) came back to tie the score, 4-4, in the top of the seventh of the first game, but the Tigers walked in the game-winning run in the bottom of the frame to capture a 5-4 victory. SXU managed only three hits in the late game to fall by a score of 4-1. With Friday's 4-3 win in 10 innings at Richard R. Ferrell Memorial Field in Chicago, ONU swept the three-game conference series.

CHICAGO – Despite leading 3-1 heading into the eighth inning, the Saint Xavier University baseball team fell 4-3 to Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) rival Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.) in 10 innings Friday afternoon at Richard R. Ferrell Memorial Field in Chicago. A pair of errors by the Cougars (34-19 overall) in the top of the 10^th inning helped plate the go-ahead run for the Tigers. SXU had its chance to tie or win the game in the bottom of the 10^th putting its first two runners on base with back-to-back singles, but a pair of strikeouts and an infield groundout shut the door on a rally attempt.

[Softball] SXU Softball Rides Solid Pitching to Sweep of Cornerstone

CHICAGO – Behind the solid pitching efforts of senior right-hander Amie Brown (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Catholic), senior righty Nicole Derezinski (St. John, Ind./Andrean) and sophomore right-hander Megan Nonnemacher (Bloomington, Ill./Normal Community), the Saint Xavier University softball team took a pair of non-conference games from Cornerstone University (Mich.) Friday afternoon at SXU Softball Field in Chicago. The Cougars (35-14 overall) held on for a 3-1 victory in the opening game and then captured a 5-2 win in the nightcap. Brown threw all seven innings of the first game and allowed just four hits, one run (earned) and two walks with nine strikeouts to move to 15-4 overall this season. Derezinski threw the first three innings of game two and gave up four hits, a run (earned) and no walks with one strikeout, while Nonnemacher got the victory (17-7) in relief going the final four frames and allowing two hits, a run (earned) and no walks with four strikeouts.

CHICAGO – Junior catcher Tony O'Shea (Valparaiso, Ind./Mount Carmel) and sophomore first baseman Thomas Keating (Chicago, Ill./Joliet Junior College/St. Laurence) each posted six hits on the day as the Saint Xavier University baseball team swept a Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) doubleheader from Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) Wednesday evening at Ed Glancy Field in Chicago. The Cougars (34-18 overall/20-7 CCAC) took early leads in both games winning the first by a score of 9-2 and the second, 10-2. SXU had its offense clicking from the onset with 16 hits in the opening game followed by 15 in the nightcap.

[Women's Soccer] Ekeler Leaving Saint Xavier Women's Soccer

CHICAGO – After a four-year stint as the Saint Xavier University women's soccer coach, Jeremy Ekeler plans to step down in June and move back to Nebraska with his family to pursue a new career venture. Ekeler amassed a 38-35-5 career record with the Cougars over the past four seasons. During his first year as head coach in 2008, SXU garnered six All-Chicago land Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) selections and won the CCAC Tournament with a 1-0 overtime victory over Trinity International University (Ill.).
