Earning three national awards, tying a school record and helping the No. 3 ranked Saint Xavier University football team to a 3-1 mark in the month of September, senior kicker/punter Spencer Nolen (Columbia, Tenn./Nevada/UT-Chattanooga/Columbia Central) was the first recipient of the 2013-14 crop of World Hyundai-Saint Xavier University Athlete of the Month honorees Tuesday for his stellar performance on the football field last month.  Nolen will be publicly honored with a certificate from World Hyundai Matteson prior to Saturday's 5 p.m. homecoming game against No. 4 Grand View University (Iowa) at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field in Chicago.

Nolen currently leads SXU in scoring with 37 points after converting eight of his 11 field goal attempts, including a career-long of 50 yards, and 13 of his 14 extra-point attempts.  He earned a number of weekly honors over the course of the month, including the NAIA Football National Special Teams Player of the Week (Sept. 30), Beyond Sports Network (BSN) National Placekicker of the Week (Sept. 30), Beyond Sports Network (BSN) National Punter of the Week (Sept. 9) and the Mid-States Football Association (MSFA) Midwest League Special Teams Player of the Week (Sept. 30).  In this past Saturday's 37-25 road victory over area rival University of St. Francis (Ill.), Nolen made all five of his field goal attempts in the game tying a school record.  He also averaged 46.1 yards per attempt on 13 punts in September, including a long of 65 yards.
