Congrats to our April winner of the Saint Xavier University Athlete of the Month award from the SXU women's golf team, senior Taylor Thompson!  Below is a listing of Thompson's accomplishments from last month as well as the other Cougar athletes who were up for consideration for April. Go Cougars!

 

 


 
Senior golfer Taylor Thompson (Women’s Golf)

  • Won the 2016-17 Saint Xavier University Female Student-Athlete of the Year award at the SXU Student-Athlete Awards Banquet on April 20
  • Won the individual title by shooting a two-round score of 156 (75, 81) at the Bethel College Pilot Spring Invite at Blackthorn Golf Club in South Bend, Ind., on April 15
  • Finished second overall at the 2017 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Women's Golf Championship at Flossmoor Country Club in Flossmoor, Ill. by shooting a two-round score of 164 (82, 82) on April 27-28
  • Won the CCAC Women's Golfer of the Week award on April 19
  • Also claimed a third place individual finish at the Marian University Spring Invite at the Broadmoor Country Club in Indianapolis on April 3-4 shooting a two-round score of 156 (78, 78)

 
HONORABLE MENTIONS:


Senior distance runner Abel Hernandez (Men’s Track & Field)

  • Qualified for the 2017 NAIA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships in the 10,000 meter run on April 28 with an automatic qualifying time of 30:31.81
  • Currently owns the fifth fastest NAIA time in the nation in the 10,000 meter run

 
Senior third baseman Savannah Kinsella (Softball)

  • Batted .415 (27-for-65) over 22 games in April with six doubles, along with nine runs scored and 16 RBIs
  • Was named the CCAC Softball Player of the Week on April 25
  • Boasted an impressive fielding percentage of .987 on the month with 29 putouts and 46 assists to just one error
  • Earned a gold medal for having a cumulative grade-point average (GPA) between 3.75 to 4.00 at the 2016-17 SXU Student-Athlete Awards Banquet on April 20
  • Posted a slugging percentage of .508 and on-base percentage of .480 for April
     

Freshman third baseman Matt Monahan (Baseball)

  • Batted .402 (33-for-82) over 21 games in April with 14 doubles, two triples and two home runs, along with 24 runs scored and 25 RBIs
  • Went a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate with two doubles and a triple with four runs scored and four RBIs in one of SXU's most impressive wins in recent history, a 27-6 victory over Trinity International University on April 15
  • Earned a silver medal for having a cumulative grade-point average (GPA) between 3.50 to 3.74 at the 2016-17 SXU Student-Athlete Awards Banquet on April 20
  • Posted a slugging percentage of .695 and on-base percentage of .474 for April
     

Junior thrower Anthony Kowalczyk (Men's Track & Field)

  • Broke two school records at the same meet at the Benedictine University NCAA vs. NAIA Challenge on April 8 in Lisle, Ill., in both the discus (39.87m) and hammer throws (36.17m)
  • Earned a silver medal for having a cumulative grade-point average (GPA) between 3.50 to 3.74 at the 2016-17 SXU Student-Athlete Awards Banquet on April 20
  • Set the school records again in both events at the Lewis University Twilight Meet on April 25 with throws of 39.00 meters in the hammer and 41.96 meters in the discus, plus took fifth overall in the shot put with a throw of 13.54 meters
