Congrats to our March co-winners of the Saint Xavier University Athlete of the Month award from the SXU women's basketball team, junior Kara Krolicki, and from the SXU women’s track & field team, junior Ellie Willging!  Below is a listing of Krolicki and Willging’s accomplishments from last month as well as the other Cougar athletes who were up for consideration for March. Go Cougars!


Junior guard Kara Krolicki (Women’s Basketball)

  • Helped lead the Saint Xavier University women’s basketball team to a historic postseason finish as the NAIA national runner-up, the furthest postseason finish in program history
  • Named the 2016-17 NAIA Division II Women’s Basketball National Player of the Year and a First Team NAIA All-American, and a 2016-17 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete
  • One of just 10 NAIA players from both NAIA Division I & II to be named to the 2017 Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) NAIA Coaches’ All-American First Team
  • One of just five players named to the 2017 NAIA Division II National Championship All-Tournament First Team
  • Averaged 19.0 points, 3.4 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 1.8 steals a game over five games at the 2017 NAIA Division II National Championship and became just the second player in SXU women’s basketball history to surpass 2,000 career points


Junior Ellie Willging (Women’s Track & Field)

  • Became Saint Xavier’s first track national champion ever by winning the 5K (5,000 meters) run at the 2017 NAIA Indoor Track & Field National Championships on March 4
  • Finished 13 seconds ahead of the next fastest competitor and shattered the school record with a time of 17:01.94
  • Was named a NAIA All-American in the indoor 5K
  • Also finished the month strong by qualifying for the 2017 NAIA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships in the 5K at the WashU Invite on March 31 with a school record time of 16:47



Senior outside hitter Sean Barry (Men’s Volleyball)

  • Became the program’s all-time career kills leader on March 21 surpassing former standout Aaron Porter
  • Averaged 2.90 kills, 1.55 digs and 0.34 service aces per set over 11 matches on the month
  • Posted double-digit kill totals in five of Saint Xavier’s 11 matches in March
  • Helped Saint Xavier secure the No. 4 seed in April’s Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Men’s Volleyball Tournament with a combined 28 kills and 13 digs in back-to-back conference wins over Trinity Christian College and Calumet College of St. Joseph (Ind.) on March 28 & 30


Freshman pitcher/designated player Amanda Ruskowsky (Softball)

  • Batted .412 (33-for-80) over 24 games in March with four doubles, two triples and three home runs along with 10 runs scored and 21 RBIs in her first month as a collegiate athlete
  • Also had 10 starts as a pitcher for the Cougars and posted an ERA of 2.92 and 46 strikeouts with four shutouts
  • Was named the CCAC Softball Player of the Week on March 16 after hitting three home runs, including two grand slams, the previous week
  • Posted a slugging percentage of .625 for the month
