Congrats to our February winner of the Saint Xavier University Athlete of the Month award from the SXU women's track & field team, junior Ellie Willging!  Below is a listing of Willging's accomplishments from last month as well as the other Cougar athletes who were up for consideration for February. Go Cougars!


 

 

 

  • Seeded No. 1 in the entire NAIA in the 5,000 meter run (5K) on February 27
  • Earned back-to-back Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Women's Track Runner of the Week awards on February 8 & 15
  • Shattered the school record and won the 3,000 meter run (3K) by 42 seconds to claim All-CCAC honors at the 2017 CCAC Indoor Track & Field Championships
  • Qualified for the 2017 NAIA Indoor Track & Field National Championships in two separate events (3K & 5K) during the month of February
  • Won the 3K by 17 seconds with a time of 10:10.61 at the Olivet Nazarene Invite on February 4

Junior guard Kara Krolicki (Women's Basketball)

  • Named the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Women's Basketball Player of the Year on February 28
  • Named a first team member of the CoSIDA Academic All-America College Division Team on February 27 for her play on the court and her success in the classroom 
  • Averaged 24.6 points, 4.2 assists, 4.1 rebounds and 1.9 steals over nine games in the month of February to help No. 3 ranked Cougars to a perfect 9-0 record on the month, including a big 88-64 win over previously unbeaten and No. 1 St. Francis (Ill.)
  • Claimed the CCAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week award for the fourth time this season on February 21

 

Junior point guard Quinn Niego (Men’s Basketball)

  • Named a second team member of the CoSIDA Academic All-America College Division Team on February 27 for his play on the court and success in the classroom
  • Averaged 21.3 points, 9.3 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 1.4 steals over seven games in February helping lead the Cougars to a 5-2 record on the month
  • Was named the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Player of the Week on February 7
  • Eclipsed 1,000 career points scoring 36 points in a 90-81 home win over Indiana-Northwest (Ind.) on February 4

 

Senior Nicole Watkins (Women’s Track & Field)

  • Earned All-CCAC honors in two separate events (800 and 1000 meter runs) at the 2017 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Indoor Track & Field Championships on February 17-18
  • Broke a school record in the 1000 meter run with a time of 2:59.59 on February 18
  • Qualified for the NAIA Indoor Track & Field National Championships in the 1000 meter run on February 18 and is seeded No. 9 nationally in the event

 

Junior center Brittany Collins (Women's Basketball)

  • Was named to the All-Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Second Team on February 28
  • Averaged 16.4 points, 10.8 rebounds and 3.6 blocks over nine games to help No. 3 ranked Cougars to a perfect 9-0 record on the month, including a big 88-64 win over previously unbeaten and No. 1 St. Francis (Ill.) 
  • Set the program's single season blocks record and became the first player in program history to surpass 100 blocks in a season (107)
