Congrats to our December winner of the Saint Xavier University Athlete of the Month award from the No. 3 ranked SXU women's basketball team, junior guard Kara Krolicki!  Below is a listing of Krolicki's accomplishments from last month as well as the other Cougar athletes who were up for consideration for December. Go Cougars!

  • Was named the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Women's Basketball Player of the Week on Dec. 20 for the second time this season
  • Averaged 21.7 points, 4.3 assists, 4.0 rebounds and 2.6 steals a game for the month of December in helping No. 3 SXU stay unbeaten on the season at 14-0 (7-0 for the month)
  • Scored 21 or more points in six of the Cougars' seven games on the month and shot 50 percent from the field (60-for-120) over the stretch
  • Scored 25 points in SXU's biggest win of the month on Dec. 29, a 73-55 win over No. 11 ranked Indiana Wesleyan (Ind.) University
Junior point guard Quinn Niego (Men's Basketball)
  • Averaged 24.0 points, 5.9 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game in helping Saint Xavier go 4-2 over the month of December
  • Shot an impressive 51 percent (47-for-93) from the field and 44 percent (18-for-41) from three-point range over the six games on the month
  • Scored a career-high 37 points in a 94-70 home win over Trinity Christian College (Ill.) on Dec. 10
Freshman guard Maddie Welter (Women's Basketball)
  • Was named to the 2016 Saint Xavier University Holiday Classic All-Tournament Team on Dec. 29
  • Averaged 16.4 points per game and shot an impressive 61 percent (31-for-51) from three-point range over SXU's seven games in the month of December, all victories
  • Hit an amazing eight three-pointers (one shy of the program record) en route to 28 points in a big 73-55 win over No. 11 ranked Indiana Wesleyan University (Ind.) on Dec. 29 
Junior offensive lineman Justin Hunter (football)
  • Named to the 2016 American Football Coaches Association (AFCA)-NAIA Coaches' All-America First Team on Dec. 13, one of just five offensive lineman in the entire NAIA on the first team
  • Was also one of just 12 SXU football players named to the 2016 Mid-States Football Association (MSFA) All-Academic Team on Dec. 8 for earning a 3.20 or higher cumulative grade-point average (GPA)
