Men's Soccer - Mon, Oct. 16, 2006
St. Augustine, Fla. - A goal by junior forward Alex Duncan (Orland Park, Ill./Moraine Valley CC) was not enough as the Saint Xavier University (Ill.) men's soccer team dropped its fourth consecutive game in a 2-1 loss to Flagler College (Fla.) Sunday at Saints Field in St. Augustine, Fla. The Cougars (5-9 overall) scored their lone goal late in the second half (78th minute) to cut the lead in half and made things interesting in the final 12 minutes of play.
Flagler scored the game's first goal in the 21st minute of regulation on a shot to the left corner of the goal by junior midfielder Sean Gormley off a pass from senior midfielder Andres Jaramillo. Neither team scored over the next 50 minutes of play before the Saints struck again when freshman midfielder Danny Burke was able to tip the ball into the goal off a free kick attempt by freshman forward Boris Kalff in the 72nd minute. Duncan was able to cut into the lead in the 78th minute off assists from sophomore midfielder Agustin Herrera (Chicago Heights, Ill./Bloom) and freshman forward Zach Kekelik (Merrillville, Ind./Crown Point). Sophomore James Kline (Canton, Ohio/Perry) finished with eight saves in goal for the Cougars.
Saint Xavier (5-9 overall, 2-4 CCAC) returns to its Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) slate on Wednesday, October 18, against Calumet College of St. Joseph (Ind.). The game starts at 3 p.m. at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field in Chicago.
