Joliet, Ill. - Junior forward Paul Herbst (Cary, Ill./Cary Grove) scored a goal for the Saint Xavier University men's soccer team, but the Cougars could not finish out their 2004 regular season schedule with a win Wednesday finishing in a 1-1 overtime tie with Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) rival University of St. Francis (Ill.) at Galowich YMCA Soccer Complex in Joliet, Ill. SXU heads to the postseason with an 11-5-3 overall record and a 6-2-1 CCAC mark.
Following a scoreless first half, USF's sophomore midfielder Art Insurriaga put the Fighting Saints ahead, 1-0, with a deflected indirect kick from junior midfielder Derek Beckham in the 50th minute of play. The Cougars were able to tie the game on the Herbst goal in the 73rd minute of the game. Senior goalkeeper Enrique Orejel (Chicago, Ill./Curie) finished with four saves for Saint Xavier.
SXU will face the University of St. Francis (Ill.) Fighting Saints again on Friday, October 29, for the quarterfinals of the CCAC Tournament. The Cougars will host the match-up at SXU stadium with game time scheduled for 2 p.m.
