CHICAGO - Despite nine kills apiece by juniors Jessica Synowiecki (Oak Lawn, Ill./Moraine Valley CC) and Tara Breshock (Lansing, Ill./TF-South), the Saint Xavier University volleyball team could not pick up a non-conference win Wednesday night falling to NCAA Division II Lewis University (Ill.) in three games 16-30, 16-30, 23-30 at the Shannon Center in Chicago. With the loss, the Cougars fall to 18-16 overall this season.
Junior setter Traci Looby (Orland Hills, Ill./Andrew) finished with 31 assists for SXU, while senior outside hitter Jessica Buchmeier (Steger, Ill./Bloom Trail) was tough defensively with six digs. The Flyers improve to an impressive 21-5 overall this season with Wednesday's victory.
Saint Xavier (18-16 overall/5-2 CCAC) heads to Bourbonnais, Ill., this weekend to take part in the two-day Olivet Nazarene University CCAC-MCC Challenge, which begins on Friday, October 27. The Cougars open the event with a 4 p.m. match against St. Ambrose University (Iowa).
