CHICAGO - Senior forward Anthony Carev (Glen Ellyn, Ill./College of DuPage) scored a pair of goals to lead the Saint Xavier University men's soccer team to a 3-0 victory over Moody Bible Institute (Ill.) Monday in non-conference action at SXU stadium. With the win, the Cougars improve to 10-4-2 overall this season.
Carev scored his first goal in the 23rd minute of regulation on a unassisted play. SXU struck again in the first half on a goal by junior midfielder Marek Podczerwinski (Summitt, Ill./Moraine Valley CC) from junior forward Paul Herbst (Cary, Ill./Cary-Grove), which gave Saint Xavier a 2-0 halftime advantage.
Just three minutes into the second half, SXU got its final goal of the game from Carev off an assist from senior forward Andy Kocur (Harwood Heights, Ill./Loyola). It was Carev's third goal in the last two games. Senior goalkeeper Enrique Orejel (Chicago, Ill./Curie) finished the game with five saves en route to the shutout victory.
Saint Xavier returns to Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) play on Wednesday, October 20, with a home game against Trinity International University (Ill.). Game time is set for 2:30 p.m. at SXU stadium.
