Women's Basketball - Tue, Nov. 21, 2006
CHICAGO - Behind a game-high 19 points and five three-pointers from senior guard Angie Brown (Sycamore, Ill./Sycamore), the No. 17 ranked Saint Xavier University women's basketball team cruised to a 84-54 victory over visiting Trinity Christian College (Ill.), 84-54, Tuesday at the Shannon Center in Chicago. The Cougars won their fourth straight game jumping out to a perfect 4-0 start on the new season.
The game started off slow with neither team shooting well from the field in the early going. However, midway through the first half, Brown began to heat up from beyond the three-point arc to help SXU begin to pull away and take a 48-27 halftime lead. Also scoring in double figures for Saint Xavier was junior forward Jackie Heine (Hampshire, Ill./Hannibal-LaGrange) with 12 points. Sophomore forward Abiola Amure (Chicago, Ill./St. Scholastica Academy) crashed the boards all night for SXU finishing with eight rebounds. Senior guards Candis Jackson (Chicago, Ill./Whitney Young) and Dani Engleman (Oak Park, Ill./Oak Park-River Forest) each moved the ball well with six assists apiece.
Saint Xavier (4-0 overall) heads to Wisconsin this weekend to face NCAA Division II University of Wisconsin-Parkside (Wis.) in non-conference action on Saturday, November 25. The game is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. at the Shannon Center in Chicago.
