Jackson, Tenn. - Second-seeded Union University (Tenn.) defeated sixth-seeded Saint Xavier University (Ill.) 92-69 in the second round of the 26th annual NAIA Division I Women's Basketball National Championship at Oman Arena.
Saint Xavier opened the game with a 12-6 lead, but Jennifer Henson collected a pair of assists on back-to-back 3-point baskets to tie it with 13 minutes to play. The Lady Bulldogs passed the Cougars to take the lead, but both were even, 38-38, in round two.
UU opened the second half with eight unanswered points, and grew their lead to as high as 23 points numerous ties, wit their last 23-point lead in the game being the final score.
Josephine Owino led Union with 18 points, while Jessica Graves followed with 15 points Natanya Smith added 11 points.
Saint Xavier was led by Candis Jackson's 18 points, followed y Jackie Heine's 13 points. Angie Brown aded12 points off four 3-point baskets.
Union improves to 28-6 on the season and advances to the quarterfinals Saturday at 4 p.m. to face sixth-seeded Lubbock Christian University (Texas) (21-11).
