Men's Basketball - Tue, Nov. 30, 2004
CHICAGO - Senior guard Phillip Watson (Chicago, Ill./Von Stueben) scored a team-high 15 points to help lift the No. 20 ranked Saint Xavier University men's basketball team over University of Illinois-Springfield by a score of 79-68 Tuesday in non-conference action at the Shannon Center in Chicago. The Cougars extend their current winning streak to three games improving to 7-1 overall on the season.

Besides Watson, four other Cougars scored in double figures in Tuesday's victory. Junior guard Jason Reiter (Lemont, Ill./Lemont) scored 14 points, while senior forward Michael Rojas (Burbank, Ill./Reavis) chipped in 13. Junior forward Jabari Saunders (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Township) finished with 11 points for SXU and senior guard Rick Romeli (Lansing, Ill./Marian Catholic) came off the bench for 10 points. Watson also tallied team-highs in assists with five and steals with three in the game.

Saint Xavier started the game sluggish never leading in the first half and trailing 32-26 at halftime. Rebounding was a problem early with the Cougars only able to pull down six rebounds in the entire first half. However, SXU got back on track in the second half shooting an impressive 72 percent (13-for-18) from the field after halftime and outrebounding the visiting Prairie Stars 18-9. The Cougars took back the lead in just the first few minutes of play after the break and never trailed again en route to the 11-point victory.

Saint Xavier will play Trinity International University (Ill.) on Tuesday, December 7, for a non-conference road game in Deerfield, Ill. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.
