Mishawaka, Ind. - Junior shortstop Colleen Kilduff (Hickory Hills, Ill./Stagg) finished the day 3-for-8 with a triple and a RBI, but the No. 16 ranked Saint Xavier University softball team could not pick up the sweep of non-conference foe Bethel College (Ind.) Thursday in Mishawaka, Ind. The Cougars took game one, 3-2, but fell in nightcap, 5-2. SXU now sits at 36-13 overall on the season.

After managing only one hit in the first four innings of play and Bethel leading 2-0, senior centerfielder Kacie Karasiak (Granger, Ind./Kalamazoo Valley CC) sparked a three-run, fifth-inning rally for SXU with a one-out RBI single. Sophomore designated hitter Marie Barker (Chicago Heights, Ill./Marian Catholic) and Kilduff also each finished the inning with RBI singles. Junior righthander Jessica Wilson (Munster, Ind./Munster) earned the complete-game win for the Cougars pitching all seven innings and allowing just five hits and two unearned runs with five strikeouts.

In game two, Bethel got off to a quick start with a run in each of the first two innings to take a early 2-0 lead. SXU was able to tie the game in the top of the fourth inning on a one-out, two-RBI single by senior second baseman Maura Ryan (Kankakee, Ill./Bishop McNamara). However, Bethel racked up three runs in the bottom of the sixth on a two-out, two-RBI single to go ahead for good, 5-2. Sophomore rightie Jory Bodi (Richmond, Ill./Richmond-Burton) took the loss for SXU pitching all six innings and allowing seven hits and five runs (four earned) with three strikeouts.

Saint Xavier returns home on Saturday, April 23, to face non-conference foe Indiana Institute of Technology for a 12 p.m. doubleheader at SXU Softball Field. It is the final regular-season home game for the Cougars this season and the games are dedicated to all the seniors on the roster.
