CHICAGO - The No. 19 ranked Saint Xavier University softball team swept a four-game series from Grand View College (Iowa) in non-conference action over the weekend at the SXU Softball Field in Chicago. The Cougars took game one Saturday, 6-0, followed by a 9-3 victory in game two. On Sunday, SXU picked up a 10-3 win in the first game of the doubleheader and snagged a 6-1 victory in the nightcap. The Cougars currently sit at 32-12 overall this season.

Sophomore centerfielder Marie Barker (Chicago Heights, Ill./Marian Catholic) paced the Saint Xavier offense in game one of the series Saturday going 3-for-4 at the plate with a triple and a RBI. Sophomore catcher Lindsey Hall (Elgin, Ill./Larkin) went 1-for-4 with a home run and two RBI, while sophomore designated hitter Samantha Lovato (Blue Island, Ill./Eisenhower) was 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Junior righthander Jessica Wilson (Munster, Ind./Munster) earned the win on the mound for SXU picking up the complete-game shutout in seven innings of work allowing five hits and no runs with nine strikeouts.

Sophomore rightfielder Nicole Barker (Chicago Heights, Ill./Marian Catholic) had the hot bat in game two with a perfect 4-for-4 outing, along with two RBI and a run scored. Marie Barker went 2-for-4 with a triple, two runs scored and two RBI, while Lovato turned in two hits and a run scored in the winning effort. Junior rightie Kim Garner (Oak Lawn, Ill./Mother McAuley) recorded the win for SXU pitching all seven innings and giving up six hits and three earned runs with three strikeouts.

In Sunday's first game, senior first baseman Christina Jesse (Varna, Ill./Illinois Valley CC) was 3-for-4 with a homer, two runs scored and four RBI, while senior leftfielder Melissa Romano (Chicago Heights, Ill./Homewood-Flossmoor) also finished with a home run, a double, three runs scored and two RBI. SXU tallied 14 hits in the game en route to its 10-run output. Sophomore pitcher Jory Bodi (Richmond, Ill./Richmond-Burton) started the game for Saint Xavier pitching the first six innings and allowing eight hits and three earned runs. Freshman Jill Hope (Lansing, Ill./Marian Catholic) came in for the last inning and gave up just one hit and no runs.

Jesse had another big game at the plate in SXU's last game of the series Sunday with a 2-for-3 showing at the plate with a home run, a double, and three RBI. Nicole Barker finished the game 2-for-4 with two RBI, while Marie Barker also recorded two hits. Freshman rightie Nicolle Bartels (Chicago, Ill./Marian Catholic) got the win for the Cougars pitching all seven innings and giving up just four hits and one earned run with two strikeouts.

Saint Xavier wraps up its Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) regular-season slate at home on Tuesday, April 19, with a 3 p.m. doubleheader against Trinity Christian College (Ill.).
