Deerfield, Ill. - Although sophomore catcher Lindsey Hall (Elgin, Ill./Larkin) continued her impressive play at the plate, the Saint Xavier University softball team could not pick up the doubleheader road sweep of Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) foe Trinity International University (Ill.) Thursday in Deerfield, Ill. The Cougars won game one, 10-1, but gave up a five runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to fall, 6-5, in the nightcap. The loss ended a school-record, 18-game win streak for SXU (21-9 overall, 9-1 CCAC).

In game one, Hall finished a perfect 3-for-3 with a home run, a run scored and four RBI, while sophomore third baseman Samantha Lovato (Blue Island, Ill./Eisenhower) went 2-for-4 with a triple, a run scored and three RBI. SXU took a 4-1 lead after the first inning and cruised the rest of the way with a run in the third and a five-run sixth inning. The Cougars outhit TIU, 10-3, in the ballgame and did not commit a single error. Junior pitcher Jessica Wilson (Munster, Ind./Munster) earned the win (11-3) on the mound for Saint Xavier pitching all six innings and giving up just three hits, one run, while striking out six batters.

Early in game two, it appeared that SXU would pick up its 19th straight victory jumping out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning and leading 5-1 heading into the bottom of the seventh. However, with two outs and runners on second and third, Trinity International got three big hits, including a two-RBI double followed by a two-run homer to end the game. Junior shortstop Colleen Kilduff (Hickory Hills, Ill./Stagg) led Saint Xavier at the plate finishing 2-for-3 with a double, a homer, two runs scored and two RBI. Hall was 1-for-3 with a RBI, while freshman catcher Aly Kelley (Aurora, Ill./Waubonsie Valley) recorded two hits in the game.

Freshman pitcher Ashley Shearer (Beecher, Ill./Beecher) took the loss for the Cougars pitching 6.2 innings and giving up 10 hits and six earned runs. She drops to 3-3 overall on the season with the loss.

SXU heads to Joliet, Ill., to take part in the University of St. Francis (Ill.) Softball Tournament this weekend. The Cougars will open with a 1 p.m. game on Friday, April 8, against host St. Francis (Ill.).
