Mishawaka, Ind. - Senior guard Phillip Watson (Chicago, Ill./Von Stueben) scored a game-high 22 points to lead the No. 20 ranked Saint Xavier University men's basketball team over Bethel College (Ind.), 81-75, Saturday in the Cougars' first road game of the season at the Wiekamp Athletic Center in Mishawaka, Ind. SXU improves its overall season record to 2-0 with the victory. Besides Watson, three other Cougars finished in double figures in scoring in Saturday's road win. Junior forward Jabari Saunders (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Township) recorded 15 points and a career-high 15 rebounds, while senior guard Rick Romeli (Lansing, Ill./Marian Catholic) and junior guard Jason Reiter (Lemont, Ill./Lemont) had 12 and 11 points, respectively. Watson also tallied a game-high seven assists.
SXU built a 46-32 halftime advantage, but the Pilots came storming back in the second half and closed to within a point late. The Cougars were able to hit their free throws in the closing minutes to maintain the lead and finish with the six-point win. Saint Xavier shot an impressive 55 percent (30-for-55) from the field in the game, including 44 percent (7-for-16) from beyond the arc.
