Kansas City, Mo. -- Saint Xavier University senior guard Mark Telander (Evergreen Park, Ill./Brother Rice) was recently named to the 2004 National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Division I Men's Basketball All-America Third Team when the teams were released by the national office. He was also named a NAIA All-American following his junior season in 2003 earning second team honors.
Telander averaged 21.5 points per game this season leading the Cougars to a 25-11 overall record and the team's fifth NAIA National Tournament appearance over the past six seasons. His scoring average was fourth nationally, while he also finished fifth in the NAIA in made three-pointers with a 3.48 per game average (112 total). The Cougars qualified for the NAIA National Tournament three of the four years Telander played at SXU and won a total of 105 games.
Telander ends his four-year basketball career at Saint Xavier University as No. 2 overall in career scoring with 2,281 points. He trails Mike Walaszek, who had a standout career for the Cougars in the late 1970's. Walaszek finished his career with 2,517 points.
