CHICAGO - A 18-point, 12-rebound performance off the bench by freshman forward Dan Bolger (Chicago, Ill./Saint Patrick) in his collegiate debut helped lead the No. 20 ranked Saint Xavier University men's basketball team to a 98-57 win over visiting East-West University (Ill.) Tuesday at the Shannon Center in Chicago. Sophomore guard Ken McCormick (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) also had a great game off the bench for SXU chipping in 17 points and four assists to help the Cougars improve to 4-0 on the season.
Saint Xavier's starting line-up dominated the first half of play outscoring the Phantoms 53-7 led by 13 points and seven rebounds by senior forward Michael Rojas (Burbank, Ill./Reavis). Starting junior forward Jabari Saunders (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Township) also had a solid all-around first half with six points, nine rebounds and five assists. The SXU starters did not log any minutes in the second half.
Sophomore guard Chris McCormick (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) was the only other Cougar to score in double figures with 10 points. SXU shot 47 percent (39-for-83) from the field in the game compared to just 33 percent (23-for-70) for East-West. The Cougars also dominated the glass outrebounding the Phantoms 62-37 in the game.
Saint Xavier heads to Huntington, Ind., on Wednesday, November 17, to face Huntington College (Ind.) for its third game in three days. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m. (eastern).
