CHICAGO - Saint Xavier University junior pitcher Jessica Wilson (Munster, Ind./Munster) was named the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Region VII Softball Pitcher of the Week Wednesday by the regional office for her outstanding performance in two appearances on the mound last week. The No. 14 ranked Cougars are currently 11-9 overall and a perfect 5-0 in conference play on the season.
Wilson got two starts over the Cougars' three-game stretch and earned a perfect 2-0 win-loss record. She completed both games pitching 12 innings and giving up just four hits and two runs (one earned). Wilson also struck out 20 batters, allowed one walk and had an earned run average (ERA) of 0.75 on the week.
"Jessica has been pitching outstanding for us this season," said SXU head softball coach Myra Minuskin. "She has a lot of confidence on the mound right now and I think opening the season against some tough competition has helped her develop."
Saint Xavier hosts conference foe Cardinal Stritch University (Wisc.) Thursday for a 3 p.m. doubleheader at SXU Softball Field.
