Men's Basketball - Wed, Mar. 9, 2005
CHICAGO - Head coach Tom O'Malley and the No. 13 ranked Saint Xavier University men's basketball team received an at-large bid Tuesday night to participate in the 2005 NAIA Division I Men's Basketball National Championship at Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City, Mo., beginning Wednesday, March 16. This will be the Cougars' third straight trip to the National Tournament and sixth in the last seven seasons. SXU will face No. 21 ranked Langston University (Okla.) in first round action at 10:45 a.m. on Wednesday, March 16.

This season, Saint Xavier has compiled a 28-6 overall record and finished second in both the regular season standings and postseason tournament in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) behind No. 5 ranked Robert Morris College (Ill.), who received an automatic bid to participate in this year's national tournament. O'Malley has been impressed all season long with how his team has played unselfishly and taken on a true "team" mentality.

"This year's squad combines a number of highly talented, yet unselfish players, who have competed with the team aspect in mind all year," said O'Malley. "Balanced scoring and the efficiency of our bench has proved to be vital for a team that truly plays together as a single unit."

Saint Xavier's student radio station, WXAV 88.3 FM Chicago, will broadcast the SXU men's first round game against Langston live from Municipal Auditorium. Saint Xavier Director of Alumni Relations John Stachniak will provide the play-by-play commentary for the game with the pre-game show set to start at approximately 10:30 a.m.
