Men's Basketball - Mon, Feb. 21, 2005
Joliet, Ill. - Michael Rojas, a senior forward on the Saint Xavier University men's basketball team, and Sara Zembrzuski (Lockport, Ill./Lockport), a senior guard on the SXU women's basketball team, were named the Men's and Women's Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Basketball Players of the Week, respectively, when the honors were released by the conference office Tuesday in Joliet, Ill. Both teams went 2-0 in league play on the week.
Rojas had arguably his best performance of the season last Wednesday with 26 points and 11 rebounds when SXU ended No. 4 ranked Robert Morris College's 20-game win streak with a 89-67 victory. In Saturday's 87-70 road win over CCAC rival University of St. Francis (Ill.), he almost earned his second straight double-double performance with 13 points and nine boards. Rojas is currently averaging 10.4 points per game and is second on the team in rebounding with a 5.4 rebound per game average.
Zembrzuski also had an impressive week on the basketball court for Saint Xavier as the Cougars captured big league wins over Illinois Institute of Technology and Robert Morris, respectively. In Tuesday's 88-79 victory over IIT, Zembrzuski finished with team-high tying 20 points hitting four of her nine three-point attempts from the field. The sharp shooter then went on the road Saturday against Robert Morris and scored 15 points and shooting 3-for-5 from beyond the arc. The senior co-captain is averaging 8.6 points per game (fourth on the team) and is hitting 37.4 percent of her three-point attempts.
