Joliet, Ill. - Saint Xavier University senior middle blocker Carrie Mockovak (Burbank, Ill./Queen of Peace) was one of just six players named to the 2005 NAIA All-Region VII Volleyball Second Team when the region office announced the teams Tuesday. Region VII is comprised of all NAIA institutions within Illinois and Iowa.
Mockovak led SXU in total blocks this season with 145 (44 solos), while also finishing third on the team in kills with 314. She also led the Cougars in kill percentage with an impressive 35.3 percent clip. Earlier this month, Mockovak earned first team honors on the 2005 All-Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Team.
Saint Xavier finished the 2005 season with a 21-19 overall record and finished in third place in the CCAC regular standings with a 7-2 mark. The Cougars fell in the first round of the CCAC Tournament on November 8 with a loss to Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT).
"Carrie had a great senior season and really played well for us down the stretch," said SXU head volleyball coach Bob Heersema. "It is a shame we did not make it further in the postseason so that she could have shown some more teams what she is capable of."
