Men's Basketball - Wed, Feb. 9, 2005
CHICAGO - Saint Xavier University junior forward Jabari Saunders (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Township) was highlighted in the latest edition (February 14, 2005) of Sports Illustrated's "Faces in the Crowd" section (page 28) for his exceptional field goal percentage of 72.5 percent, which currently ranks No. 2 nationally in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). The SXU men's basketball team is currently in the midst of an impressive season with an overall record of 21-4 and a national ranking of No. 16 in the latest NAIA poll.

Besides his impressive field goal percentage, Saunders was been a major contributor to the Cougars' successful season in many other ways. He currently leads the team in scoring (14.0 ppg), rebounding (7.3 rpg) and blocked shots (1.3 bpg). In fact, Saunders was named the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Men's Basketball Player of the Week Tuesday for his solid play in Saint Xavier's two big conference wins last week over Indiana University-South Bend and Purdue University-Calumet, respectively.

"This has been a wonderful week for me," said Saunders. "I was in Sports Illustrated, named the conference player of the week and it was my birthday yesterday (February 8). Hopefully, I will be able to build on this recent success both in my individual efforts and also as a person."

Saunders is the son of Calvin and Dorothy Saunders. He is majoring in business marketing at Saint Xavier University.
