CHICAGO -- Senior forward Michael Rojas (Burbank, Ill./Reavis) scored a season-high 20 points to lead the No. 15 ranked Saint Xavier University men's basketball team rolled to a 100-60 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) victory over Illinois Institute of Technology Wednesday night at the Shannon Center in Chicago. The Cougars have won six straight games and improve to 18-3 overall (2-0 CCAC) this season with the win, while IIT falls to 0-21 overall (0-3 CCAC).
In addition to Rojas, two other SXU players scored in double figures in Wednesday's win. Senior guard Rick Romeli (Lansing, Ill./Marian Catholic) finished with 18 points, while junior forward Jabari Saunders (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Township) was a perfect 4-for-4 from the field turning in 12 points. Rojas and Saunders led Saint Xavier on the glass with eight rebounds apiece, while Romeli and senior guard Phillip Watson (Chicago, Ill./Von Stueben) each dished out a team-high four assists. SXU shot a stellar 56 percent (28-for-50) from the field in the game, including 56 percent (10-for-18) from beyond the three-point arc.
The Scarlet Hawks were led by junior guard Ayo Ayodele, who finished with a game-high 25 points. Saint Xavier took control of the game early and never looked back building a 24-point halftime advantage, 48-24, and extending the lead by over forty points in the second half. IIT shot just 33 percent (19-for-57) in the game and connected on only 22 percent (6-for-27) of its three-point attempts.
Saint Xavier continues its CCAC slate with a big road game against the red-hot No. 6 ranked Robert Morris College Eagles (16-3 overall, 2-0 CCAC) on Saturday, January 22, at the Gentile Center on the campus of Loyola University in Chicago. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
