Avon Park, Fla. - Senior guard Phillip Watson (Chicago, Ill./Von Stueben) scored 16 points in each of the final two games of the No. 20 ranked Saint Xavier University men's basketball team's Florida trip earlier this week at the SFC Center in Avon Park, Fla. The Cougars picked up a regular season win against Warner Southern College (Fla.) Monday, 64-41, and then defeated Daemen College (N.Y.), 84-70, Tuesday to finish the week-long trip with a 4-1 record. SXU is currently 16-3 overall this season.

In Saint Xavier's win against Warner Southern (Fla.), Watson led the Cougars in scoring and also finished with three rebounds, three assists and four steals. The only other SXU player to score in double figures in Monday's game was senior forward Michael Rojas (Burbank, Ill./Reavis), who finished with 10 points as well as with a game-high eight rebounds. SXU took advantage of poor Warner Southern shooting in the first half (7-for-24) to build a 34-18 halftime lead and continued to cruise in the second half en route to the 23-point victory despite committing 24 turnovers. Warner Southern falls to 3-10 on the season with the loss.

In Tuesday's win over Daemen College, junior forward Jabari Saunders (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Township) had the hot hand for Saint Xavier scoring a game-high 24 points on 11-for-16 shooting (69 percent). Saunders also led SXU on the glass with eight rebounds. Freshman guard Matt Marino (Chicago, Ill./Saint Patrick) also tallied double digits in scoring Tuesday with 10 points off the bench. Saint Xavier shot an impressive 57 percent (34-for-60) from the field in the game. Junior guard Jason Reiter (Lemont, Ill./Lemont) finished with a season-high six steals in the winning effort. The Warriors drop to 10-5 on the season with the loss.

SXU will open its Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) schedule on Wednesday, January 12, with a home game against Purdue University-Calumet (Ind.) at the Shannon Center in Chicago. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
