CHICAGO - Saint Xavier University senior guard/forward Rick Romeli (Lansing, Ill./Marian Catholic) was named the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Men's Basketball Player of the Week Tuesday after turning in solid back-to-back performances in the Cougars' two conference games last week. Over the two-game span, Romeli averaged 20.5 points, 5.0 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game.
In last Wednesday's 71-55 win over University of St. Francis (Ill.), Romeli shot 7-for-10 from the field en route to 17 points. He also finished with a team-high eight rebounds, while dishing out two assists. In Saturday's 83-74 road loss to Olivet Nazarene University, Romeli had an impressive individual performance scoring a game-high 24 points on 9-for-15 shooting from the field, including a 5-for-8 showing from beyond the arc. He also led the Cougars in assists with five and steals with two.
"Rick has probably been our team's best player over the last few games," said Saint Xavier University head men's basketball coach Tom O'Malley. "He is shooting the ball really well right now and has also been taking on our opponent's best offensive players on defense and keeping them in check. Rick is definitely deserving of this particular honor."
Saint Xavier (19-4 overall, 3-1 CCAC) will face Indiana University-South Bend in a CCAC match-up on Wednesday, February 2, at the Shannon Center. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
