CHICAGO - Behind 14 kills apiece from senior middle blocker Tara Breshock (Lansing, Ill./TF-South) and junior right side Laura Gullickson (Bourbonnais, Ill./Bishop McNamara), the Saint Xavier University volleyball team defeated visiting Grace College (Ind.) in a four-game, non-conference match Friday night at the Shannon Center in Chicago. The Cougars (11-10 overall) won the first game 30-20, dropped the second game 31-33, and then went on to take the next two games 30-28 and 30-13.

SXU also got solid performances from senior outside hitter Jessica Synowiecki (Oak Lawn, Ill./Moraine Valley CC) and junior outside hitter Chelsey Guay (Escanaba, Mich./Escanaba) each finishing with 10 kills. Senior setter Traci Looby (Orland Hills, Ill./Andrew) led the Cougars with 52 assists. Senior libero Emily Soto (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Junior College) also had a stellar outing for SXU with six service aces and team-best 15 digs.

Saint Xavier (11-10 overall/3-1 CCAC) returns to its Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) schedule next week heading to Deerfield, Ill., to play Trinity International University on Tuesday, October 2. The road match will start at 7:30 p.m. in Deerfield.
