Olathe, Kan. - Saint Xavier University junior linebacker Sean Kenney (Palos Hills, Ill./Stagg) and running back Luke Schillo (Evergreen Park, Ill./Evergreen Park) were both named to the 2005 Daktronics-NAIA Football All-America Scholar Athlete Team when the team was announced Tuesday by the national office in Olathe, Kan. In order to qualify, recipients must be a junior or above in academic standing and possess at least a 3.50 grade-point average on a 4.00 scale.
Kenney finished the 2005 campaign with the second-highest tackle total (94) on the team behind only 2005 NAIA Second Team All-American Rick King (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew), who finished with 115 tackles. Kenney also recorded 9.5 tackles for losses, three sacks, a forced fumble and recovery, and an interception. Schillo led the Cougars rushing attack last fall netting 474 yards on the ground with eight touchdowns. He played in all 12 games for SXU and averaged 4.0 yards per carry.
Saint Xavier had an impressive 2005 campaign finishing with a 9-3 overall record and co-champions of the MSFA Midwest League. The Cougars qualified for the NAIA playoffs for only the second time in the program's 13-year history. SXU was ranked No. 7 in the final NAIA football poll, but fell 31-28 to No. 4 University of Sioux Falls (S.D.) in first round action in Chicago on Saturday, November 19.
