CHICAGO - Senior guard Jason Reiter (Lemont, Ill./Lemont) scored a game-high tying 18 points to lead the No. 16 ranked Saint Xavier University men's basketball team to a 102-50 win over Memorial University of Newfoundland (Canada) in its season opener Sunday at the Shannon Center in Chicago. The Cougars improve to 1-0 with the win, while the Seahawks drop to 6-4 overall this season.

In addition to Reiter, senior forward Jabari Saunders (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Township West) also had a solid outing for SXU recording a double-double with 13 points and a game-high 17 rebounds, while also dishing out a game-high six assists. In his first career start as a Cougar, sophomore forward Dan Bolger (Chicago, Ill./Saint Patrick) played well scoring 14 points on 6-for-9 shooting from the field. Senior forward Robert Hickey led Memorial University of Newfoundland in scoring with 18 points, while sophomore forward Leonel Saintil finished with 13 points and team-high nine rebounds.

SXU never trailed in the ballgame jumping out to an early 9-0 lead in the first two minutes of play and never looked back. The Cougars shot an impressive 54 percent (38-for-71) from the field in the game, including a 44 percent clip (10-for-23) from beyond the three-point arc. Saint Xavier also took advantage of MUN's 24 turnovers scoring 35 of its 102-point output on opponent miscues.

SXU (1-0 overall) will head to San Diego, Calif., to play NCAA Division I foe San Diego State University (Calif.) on Thursday, November 3 in an exhibition. The game is scheduled for 7 p.m. (pacific) start.
