CHICAGO - Sophomore infielder Nick Tantillo (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew) finished 3-for-9 with two doubles, four runs scored and six RBI to help lead the Saint Xavier University baseball team to two wins over visiting Calumet College of St. Joseph (Ind.) Sunday at Richard R. Ferrell Memorial Field in Chicago. The Cougars won the first Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) game, 23-0, in seven innings and got its second win over CCSJ, 10-2, in the non-conference nightcap. The wins improve SXU to 24-17 overall and 10-3 in league play.

In game one, Saint Xavier racked up season-highs in runs (23), hits (22) and RBI (20). Senior centerfielder A.J. Coia (North Riverside, Ill./Riverside-Brookfield) went a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate with a double, three runs scored and two RBI, while junior shortstop Brendan Christy (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew) also finished with four hits, three runs and two RBI. Senior leftfielder Pat Flynn (Chicago, Ill./University of Illinois) went 3-for-3 with a run scored and four RBI in the winning effort.

Saint Xavier scored at least two runs in each of the seven innings of the ballgame, including nine runs in the first inning. Sophomore righthander Ryan Quigley (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Catholic) earned the win on the mound for the Cougars pitching the first five innings and giving up just four hits and two walks with 10 strikeouts. Freshman rightie Joe Zotto (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew) got in some relief work pitching the final two innings allowing no hits and a walk.

In the second game, sophomore first baseman Kevin White (Chicago, Ill./St. Rita) had the hot bat for SXU going 3-for-4 at the plate with two RBI and a run scored, while Tantillo finished 2-for-5 with a double, two runs scored and two RBI. The Cougars outhit CCSJ, 16-3, in the non-conference game. SXU scored two runs in the third inning, seven runs in the fourth, and one run in the sixth to end the game in seven innings. Junior leftie Nick Karko (Alsip, Ill./Marist) picked up the win pitching all seven innings and giving up just three hits and two unearned runs with six strikeouts.

Saint Xavier returns to Ferrell Field on Monday, April 25, with a non-conference game against Indiana Tech (Ind.) at 3:30 p.m.
