CHICAGO - A goal by junior midfielder Ben Clarke in the 103rd minute of play gave visiting Cardinal Stritch University (Wis.) a 1-0 double-overtime victory over Saint Xavier University (Ill.) in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) men's soccer action Wednesday at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field in Chicago. It was the second straight conference loss for the Cougars, who fall to 4-5 overall this season and 1-2 in league play.
Clarke received the ball for the game-winning goal after it rebounded off SXU freshman goalkeeper Ian Pickett (Mokena, Ill./Providence Catholic) while saving a previous shot attempt by CSU senior forward Chris Tinker. Pickett finished the game with six saves for Saint Xavier. The Cougars recorded four shots on goal compared to seven by Cardinal Stritch.
Saint Xavier (4-5 overall, 1-2 CCAC) continues conference play on Tuesday, October 3, with a road game against Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT). Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Chicago.
