Men's Basketball - Wed, Nov. 2, 2005
Olathe, Kan. - Following an impressive 102-50 win against Memorial University of Newfoundland (Canada) in its season opener Sunday, the Saint Xavier University men's basketball team landed a No. 16 ranking when the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) recently released its preseason top 25 poll. Last season, the Cougars finished with a 30-7 overall record, a second-place finish (10-2 mark) in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) regular season standings, and its first-ever Elite Eight appearance at the NAIA National Tournament.

"It is always nice to be ranked, but I think this ranking has more to do with our success last season," said SXU men's basketball coach Tom O'Malley. "I hope our team can build off the things we achieved last year. Honestly, I'm more worried about the rankings that come out at the end of the season than the preseason ones."

SXU (1-0 overall) will head to San Diego, Calif., to play NCAA Division I foe San Diego State University (Calif.) on Thursday, November 3 in an exhibition. The game is scheduled for 7 p.m. (pacific) start.
