San Diego, Calif. - Despite a team-high 17 points by senior guard Jason Reiter (Lemont, Ill./Lemont), the No. 16 ranked Saint Xavier University men's basketball team lost its first regular-season game of the season Saturday falling, 69-64, to San Diego Christian College in San Diego, Calif. With the loss, the Cougars fall to 1-1 overall this season.
Freshman guard Jason Genova (Chicago, Ill./Saint Patrick) also had a nice outing for SXU scoring 16 points on 7-for-13 shooting from the field, while sophomore forward Dan Bolger (Chicago, Ill./Saint Patrick) also scored in double figures in Saturday's loss with 11 points. Senior forward Jabari Saunders (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Township West) led the Cougars on the boards with a game-high 15 rebounds. Saint Xavier out-rebounded San Diego Christian, 41-34, in the game, but had trouble overcoming 17 turnovers. SDCC scored 19 of its 69 points off SXU miscues.
SXU (1-1 overall) will head to Palos Heights, Ill., to take on non-conference foe Trinity Christian College on Wednesday, November 9. Game time is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
