Hammond, Ind. - Despite a career-high tying 17 points by freshman forward Adam Gregoriou (Burbank, Ill./Brother Rice), the No. 19 ranked Saint Xavier University men's basketball team lost a tough, non-conference game to Calumet College of St. Joseph (Ind.), 68-59, on the road Thursday in Hammond, Ind. The Cougars (8-5 overall) had trouble shooting the ball the entire game hitting only 35 percent (18-for-51) of its shots from the field, while the Crimson Wave (6-9 overall) shot an impressive 54 percent (25-for-46).
Gregoriou shot 7-for-9 from the field to lead SXU and pulled down six rebounds, while senior guard Jason Reiter (Lemont, Ill./Lemont) was the only other Cougar in double figures with 14 points and five boards. Freshman guard Jason Genova (Chicago, Ill./Saint Patrick) led Saint Xavier on the glass with seven rebounds to go along with his seven points. Senior forward Mike Oppland, who finished with a game-high 24 points, led Calumet College of St. Joseph.
SXU (8-5 overall) returns to action on Saturday, December 17, with a non-conference road game against Trinity International University (Ill.) in Deerfield, Ill. Game time is scheduled for 3 p.m.
