Men's Soccer - Tue, Oct. 24, 2006
Joliet, Ill. -- A goal by junior defender Tim Kopec (Orland Park, Ill./Moraine Valley CC) in the 53rd minute of play was enough to give the Saint Xavier University men's soccer team a 1-0 victory over Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) rival University of St. Francis (Ill.) Tuesday at the Galowich YMCA fields in Joliet, Ill. The win guarantees the Cougars the sixth and final berth in the 2006 CCAC Men's Soccer Tournament, which begins on Saturday, October 28.

Kopec scored the game's lone goal off an assist from sophomore forward Sinisa Vidakovic (Loves Park, Ill./Rockford College). SXU's defense did not allow USF a shot on goal in the second half. For the game, the Cougars outshot the Saints, 9-4. Freshman Ian Pickett (Mokena, Ill./Providence Catholic) got the start in goal for Saint Xavier and finished with four saves en route to his first shutout of the season.

The Cougars (9-8 overall/5-4 CCAC) wrap up their regular season slate on Thursday, October 26, taking on Moody Bible Institute (Ill.) in a non-conference road game in Chicago. The game is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
