CHICAGO - Despite recording only four hits over nine innings, the Saint Xavier University baseball team was able to walk away with a 2-1 road win over Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) foe Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) Thursday at Ed Glancy Field in Chicago. With the victory, SXU improves to 26-18 overall and 12-3 in the conference.

The Scarlet Hawks got on the scoreboard first, 1-0, with a one-out RBI single in the first inning. Saint Xavier was able to tie the game, 1-1, in the top of the third when junior designated hitter Chris Gruber (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Catholic) was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and two outs. Sophomore third baseman Nick Tantillo (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew) picked up the game-winning RBI in the sixth inning with a two-out single that scored junior rightfielder Luke Gregerson (Lyons, Ill./Morton) from second base.

IIT outhit the Cougars, 5-4, in the ballgame. Junior lefthander Nick Karko (Alsip, Ill./Marist) earned the win on the mound for Saint Xavier pitching the first seven innings and allowing just four hits and a run along with seven strikeouts. Gregerson came in as SXU's closer for the final two innings and gave up just one hit and no runs with two strikeouts en route to his fifth save of the season.

Saint Xavier will play CCAC foe Robert Morris College (Ill.) on Friday, April 29, for a 3 p.m. nine-inning conference road game at Howie Minas Field in Midlothian, Ill.
