Joliet, Ill. - Saint Xavier University junior middle blocker Tara Breshock (Lansing, Ill./TF-South), junior setter Traci Looby (Orland Hills, Ill./Andrew), and sophomore libero Jenna Guide (Orland Park, Ill./Sandburg) swept the three Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Volleyball Player of the Week honors when the league office in Joliet, Ill released the honors Tuesday. All three were instrumental in helping the Cougars win all five of their matches on the week, including a four-match sweep of last weekend's Indiana Wesleyan University Wildcat Invitational.
Breshock claimed the title of CCAC Volleyball Player of the Week for the second week in a row after garnering all-tournament distinction at the Indiana Wesleyan Invitational. She did so by tallying four straight double-digit kill matches at the Invitational leading to her overall 3.80 kills per game and .471 attack percentage on the week. In her five matches, she committed no more than two errors in any contest. Breshock's other numbers included nine digs and eight blocks, seven of which were assisted blocks.
Looby nabbed the distinction of CCAC Setter of the Week for the second consecutive week after registering three 50-plus assist matches, all of which came at the Indiana Wesleyan University Invitational, where she was also recognized as an all-tournament selection. Looby ran an offense that produced an unblemished 5-0 mark, averaged 12.21 assists per game, and a .359 attack percentage with her 16 kills in 19 games. She also averaged 3.53 digs on defense and recorded 10 aces and nine blocks for a solid all-around performance.
Guide was named the CCAC Libero of the Week for the first time this season after serving as a defensive key in the Cougars' perfect 5-0 mark for the week. She averaged 7.07 digs per contest and produced no less than 16 digs in each of her first four matches, including 34 in a three-set win over Trevecca Nazarene University (Tenn.). Guide also tallied five aces on the offensive end with three coming against Huntington University (Ind.). Saint Xavier (17-14 overall/4-2 CCAC) heads to Florida this weekend to play Florida Gulf Coast University on Saturday, October 21. The match is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. eastern time.
