- Paced by freshman Lauren Dentzman (Lemont, Ill./Lemont), the Saint Xavier University women's cross country team took home a 13th place finish out of the 34 teams competing at Saturday's National Catholic Cross Country Invitational hosted by the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind. The Cougars finished with 469 points as a team against a variety of levels of collegiate competition, including NCAA Division I, II, and III teams in addition to the NAIA. Out of the 12 teams from the NAIA competing in this event, SXU finished ahead of 11 of them.
Dentzman finished in 50th place out of 267 runners with a time of 20:01 over the 5,000-meter course. Other finishers for Saint Xavier included: freshman Amy Poull (Oak Forest, Ill./Oak Forest) at No. 62 overall with a time of 20:11, freshman Amanda Janosz (Orland Park, Ill./Sandburg) at No. 69 with a time of 20:18, freshman Megan Syring (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew) at No. 132 in 21:19; and sophomore Marianne Lopez (Chicago, Ill./Washington) wrapped up the scoring at No. 187 with a time of 22:31.
SXU travels to Davenport, Iowa, this Friday to run in the Brissman-Lundeen Invitational, which begins at 5:45 p.m. This meet is sponsored by Augustana College (Iowa) and many of the best small college teams in the Midwest will participate.Click here for meet results.
