CHICAGO - Saint Xavier University junior leftfielder Chris Gruber (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Catholic) was named the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Baseball Player of the Week Tuesday for his outstanding performance at the plate during SXU's eight-game stretch last week. Although he was only able to play in four of the Cougars' eight games due to injury, Gruber made the most of his playing time batting .562 (9-for-16).
In addition to his batting average, Gruber also recorded three doubles, four runs scored and seven RBI on the week. He finished with a slugging percentage of .750 and an on-base percentage of .632. He was also tough on the defensive side with six putouts and one assist for a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage. Gruber currently leads the Cougars in batting average (.372), hits (35), doubles (10), triples (2), and RBI (23) this season.
Saint Xavier (15-15 overall, 3-2 CCAC) hosts CCAC foe Illinois Institute of Technology (Ill.) Thursday for a nine-inning game at Ferrell Field in Chicago. Game time is set for 3 p.m.
