Hillsdale, Mich. - Highlighted by a seventh place finish in the 3200-meter relay, the Saint Xavier University men's track team competed at the Gina Relays hosted by Hillsdale College (Mich.) on April 23 and 24 in Hillsdale, Mich. This prestigious meet brings over 2000 student-athletes from both NCAA and NAIA institutions. The 3200-relay team consisted of sophomore Matt Rychel
(Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew), senior Manny Gonzalez (Chicago, Ill./St. Laurence), sophomore Dan Hasty (Oak Lawn, Ill./Brother Rice) and sophomore Brandon Hummer
(Willowbrook, Ill./Hinsdale South) and finished the event with a time of 7:55.26. SXU men's track coach Ed McAllister
was pleased with his team's performance.
"We came here specifically to run the relay and I believe that this is a national caliber relay team," said McAllister. "We should reach the NAIA qualifying standard (7:51.60) at the next opportunity that we have to run this race." Saint Xavier competed in Champaign, Ill., over the weekend at the Illinois Twilight Meet this past Friday. The next event for the Cougars will be on Tuesday, May 11, at the Demon Relays hosted by DePaul University in Chicago.
