CHICAGO - Senior outside hitter Jessica Buchmeier (Steger, Ill./Bloom Trail) finished with a team-high 14 kills to help lead the Saint Xavier University volleyball team to a convincing three-game match win (30-10, 30-16, 30-25) over visiting Cardinal Stritch University (Wis.) in its Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) opener Tuesday at the Shannon Center in Chicago. With the win, the Cougars improve to 2-2 overall this season and 1-0 in league play.

In addition to Buchmeier, several other Cougars had impressive individual performances in Tuesday's win. Junior setter Traci Looby (Orland Hills, Ill./Andrew) finished with 37 assists and eight digs, while senior outside hitter Paige Pedigo (Chicago Ridge, Ill./Queen of Peace) posted nine digs and three service aces. Offensively, junior outside hitter Jessica Synowiecki (Oak Lawn, Ill./Moraine Valley CC) was tough as well recording 10 kills and three aces for the Cougars. Junior middle blocker Eileen Carls (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew) was solid on the defensive side leading SXU with four total blocks.

Saint Xavier continues its season with a non-conference match against Tiffin University (Ohio) on Thursday, September 7, at the Shannon Center in Chicago. The match is scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
