Fort Wayne, Ind. - Despite four players finishing with double-double statistics totals, the Saint Xavier University volleyball team dropped a tough non-conference road match to Indiana Institute of Technology (Ind.) in four games 29-31, 24-30, 30-25, 28-30 Thursday night in Fort Wayne, Ind. With the loss, the Cougars fall to 8-9 overall, while the Warriors improve to 14-2 overall.
Leading the way for SXU was senior outside hitter Paige Pedigo (Chicago Ridge, Ill./Queen of Peace) with 13 kills and 13 digs. In addition, Saint Xavier also got strong individual outings from junior setter Traci Looby (Orland Hills, Ill./Andrew), who finished with 53 set assists and 11 digs as well as junior outside hitter Jessica Synowiecki (Oak Lawn, Ill./Moraine Valley CC) with 12 kills and 11 digs and sophomore right side Laura Gullickson (Bourbonnais, Ill./Bishop McNamara) with 10 kills and 14 digs. Offensively, junior middle blocker Tara Breshock (Lansing, Ill./TF-South) and junior middle blocker Eileen Carls (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew) were also tough finishing with 11 and nine kills, respectively.
Saint Xavier (8-9 overall, 3-1 CCAC) stays in Indiana over the weekend to take part in the two-day Taylor University (Ind.) Volleyball Tournament in Upland, Ind. The Cougars kick off their first of four weekend matches Friday against Davenport University (Mich.) at 2 p.m.
